Finally got around to replacing the glow plugs and module. What an absolutely crap job! They could not have found a worse place to put the module! This was the result of my thermostats being left too long waiting for parts. Good to get rid of the rough idle when cold and back to normal fuel consumption.

Replaced the coolant pipe under the valley pan on my 08 4.8i, plus installed a new battery and registered it with Carly Pro!
Coolant pipe I used was the one from AGA and I know it's more expensive than the URO and another copy, but I very pleased with the workmanship and quality of this pipe. With its overall design, I doubt I'll need to replace it again! Not too difficult of an installation, but time consuming. Took around 7 hours (not including 3 hour pressure test that I spread over 3 days. Had to stop in the afternoons as it was getting too hot out doing this in my driveway. 90+ degrees every afternoon and felt like the sun was just trying to bake me, so I just found good stopping points and ended each day. Finished buttoning it up this morning and runs perfectly! If you're needing to do this job, I highly recommend the AGA coolant pipe.

Changed the oil. Noted a few things that need attention in the future.

Had my tire repaired. Picked up a nail from somewhere. And had my rear brakes checked.

Flushed brake fluid with 2 liters of ATE TYP 200 via a Motive Power Bleeder. It's amazing how dark the fluid gets in only 2 years.
Also, changed the oil... 8.5 quarts of Castrol EDGE 0W-40, 2 bottles of Liqui-Moly "Motor Oil Saver" (seal conditioner), and a Mann oil filter.

Removed and Replaced my leaking windshield pump, as well as the two filter grommets. The filters were covered with rubbery gunk. Total time was about 2 1/2 hours.

Got some new tires (just standard Bridgestone 255/50R19), new TMPS sensors and brakes.
Bad thing is the new TPMS sensors didn't correct my TPMS problem with "external interference" so that tells me it's time for a new TPMS antenna and hopefully NOT the entire system.

Replaced the blower motor and cabin filter while I was there. Didn't go OEM on the replacement, as it was twice the cost of an off-brand from Amazon. Then again, I did have to move the resistor unit over to the new fan, not sure if the OEM comes with that. I should have gone OEM, since they're made by Valeo, which is actually one of my customers. Shhhhh!
I found that I needed to take out the screws from the entire dash face to help pull it open enough to rotate the fan to remove the plug. Same thing on reinstallation. Overall, took me about 35 minutes from open to close. |
