if any of you want to get into this mess he aint the only one selling an x5 with a broken motor. you could go to an auction and buy similar car with a broken motor, maybe signs of flood and it would only cost you around 2-3k. so to make a long story short HE WOULD BE LUCKY TO SELL IT FOR 10K!

Ok, here's the Latest scoop for those who have any serious interest in considering a purchase v.s. the majority whom seam more about making this good faith thread into a stoning and/ or venue for voicing their own ingnorance; evidenced hereinafter by those who take the most offense and or feel compelled to chime in with an abundance of negativity (i.e. see the second post below).

I have found a complete 2006 4.8is engine with 42,500 mi. +/- from a parts dealer in Houston asking $5,500 and offering a 90day warranty. He will install for $900 and if he does the install will include both parts (the engine) and instillation in the warranty. You can look it up yourself here: Welcome to Ronda Auto Parts Look it up under search and this is what you will find:

Year Part Model Description MilesPart Grade Stock# US Price Dealer Info
2006 Engine BMW X5 90 DAYS WARRANTY no oil pan 42,510 A x5-100 $5500 Ronda Auto Parts USA-TX(Houston) E-mail 1-713-541-6800 / 1-713-541-6801

SO although I can now potentially cure my problem at the obvious cost, it's my preferrence to sell the vehicle and move on given a reasonable price. And given a value of approx. $30k +/- less some minor paint issues on the front and back bumpers (-$2,000 +/-) shown in these pics: Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

Please keep in mind the pics are pretty horrible considering the vehcile was confined to my garage being it's not running at the moment in addition to it needing a good cleaning.

In conclusion and again for those who may have a serious and reasonable interest without any obnoxious intent to further make this thread out to your own source of entrertainment, make your offer now otherwise I will be sending it to TX and selling thereafter.

Thanks

Try to negotiate a bit on the engine...I got mine down by a few hundred and also didn't have to send mine...

Best of luck with the sale and the repair...the X looks great... its worth the hassle

First off, a 60k+ mile 4.8is would fetch 30k tops. Maybe if it is in exceptional condition all around.

Knock off the depreciation due to the cosmetic and obvious mechanical issues (even a replacement engine won't bring it to top value) and you are talking about a vehicle worth maybe $25k when it is repaired. I suppose you could find a sucker willing to pay more if they don't know about the engine.

So given a final value of $25k, it is reasonable to say that parts and labor for a replacement engine is around $10k, maybe more (your engine above without oil pan is less than ideal. Why is the oil pan missing????) Plus the headache of the whole ordeal and trying to make a profit...

Your X5 is worth $10k wholesale. An honest opinion from someone that does this sort of thing. It's a standing offer...

Although you can adjust the $10k doward based on the found engine for $5,500 + install $900 +/- your not far from the ballpark if serious.

Next to last update fellas. I have a $15k offer on the table or I'm being offered a used engine with only 42k miles (and a 6 month warrentee) for $4k +/-.

Anyone have any last (POSSITIVE) words speak now before I commit to one of them.??

All i can say is that if you have an offer for 15K for the car as is then its not a bad price but if you like your car and have the engine+labor 5K then why not do the change and turn around and sell? Im just wondering if you will earn more than 20K once you replace the engine? thats the real question?
