From what I figured out on my 04 (be it a M3 with the shark fin) the cable incompatibility was caused because there wasn't a correct cable that ran from the center console back to the trunk for BT handset antenna signal. On the 05's that cable is there. 04's ... is not. There is however a old style CPT9000 antenna cable there ... however I never figured out how to make it work, so gave up. BMW ofcourse were no help, since it wasn't supported, and they dont plan to support it. So for powering my handset I just use the glovebox torch light adapter. The handset (SE T637) works fine and doesn't seem to need a external antenna. If you make any progress with the cradle and your '04 please share it with the rest of us ! :-) |

That sounds pretty ridiculous
typical - but ridiculous.
The wiring issues are just WAY too simple to not have a solution. My MOTO E815 actually uses the same power connection as my CPT9000 so I've gotta believe I can make the existing wiring charge the E815 in the cradle. The antenna connection might be more challenging, but is this just an issue of connector compatibility? If there's an antenna connector coming out of the eject box (and there appears to be) and an antenna connector for the CPT9000, there MUST be a way to connect them together - e.g., through a fabricated adapter or something. This, of course, would explain why the stealer is telling me I can have the TCU installed, but I won't be able to use the cradle. Considering how simple the wiring issues seems to be, I can't believe nobody else has come up with a fix. Since I'm going to be tearing up the interior anyway to do video integration and seaker/amp upgrades, I'll just run a new ^&**& antenna to the rear bumper if I have to.

Frank, just for clarity sake, the rear bumper or shark fin antenna connects directly with the BT/Assist TCU. Then a second antenna cable goes from the TCU to the cradle for handset antenna (thats the one missing in my '04). Finally a 3rd cable goes from the TCU to the center console for the bluetooth antenna. (In the E46 the bluetooth antenna is located in the center console). Not sure when thats located on a X5.
Cheers, Adrian |

Found this in another thread
![]() Might one of those be the ticket to connect the CPT9000 to the BT eject box? If one of those is the answer to my antenna connection, all that's left is charging the battery from the cradle. Only five pins. How hard can it be?

Checking the Trunk end of the connection ..... The Antenna cable used for the old CPT 9000 phone terminates in the trunk to a Male Fakra in my 04 M3. In order for it to be connected to the BT/Assist TCU (for the handset in the cradle to take advantage of the external antenna) you would need a Female Fakra to Female Fakra adapter cable !!
I would imagine this will be the same as your 04 as well !! You could ofcourse connect the female Fakra connector from the external antenna, directly to the male Fakra connector of the cradle antenna cable, however if you did this, now the TCU would not have a antenna connection ... which would mean Assist would not be able to make calls !! :-) So it would be best to try and find the adapter cable I mention above.

The plot thickens....
Since I'm using (or was until recently) both Assist and the CPT9000 at the same time, I'm not too concerned about the back end of the antenna connection. Either the CPT9000 was already sharing the antenna with Assist or it already has a separate antenna. Either way, if I can make the antenna connection at the center console, I know the other end is connected to an antenna somewhere.
Just this afternoon, I discovered that my car has a -218 "combo" module AND the car is already "pre-wired" for BT. There's already a BT antenna mounted on top of the CD&DVD bracket in the LR 1/4 panel! The antenna is plugged into the -218 module, but it's not doing anything at the moment because BT is disabled in -218. So all I should have to do is swap the -218 module for a -993 or later module that has BT enabled. BUT this also means that the eject box at the center console should also be a simple swap - and according to BMW it's not. The "official" word is I can have a combo BT/Assist module but CAN'T use it with the console-mounted eject box.

BMW Assist Retrofit to 2004 Solved!
Guys,
I know this has been around a while but no-one seems to have a definitive answer posted so I thought I would clarify things. There are actually two 'eject box wiring compatibility issues'. The first is that the combined assist/BT module (which is designated option SA633 by BMW) is designed to operate with Eject Box #84-21-6-946-063. SA644, which is the standard BT telephone without assist, is designed to operate with Eject Box 84-21-6-933-415. The eject boxes are physically the same - however the wiring is different. Photos of this eject box - as I installed in my X5 - are below. It is possible to covert from one eject box to the other - to do this you need to follow the wiring diagrams for each and work out the different pins for each system. The only difference between the two eject boxes is that the brown/white/red & green wires goes to different pins on the same plug. The second 'eject box wiring compatibility issues' is what is alluded to in the post above which is the fact that the antenna lead from the eject box in an '04 is male and so is the corresponding connection on the TCU. The cable shown above (84 32 0 138 217 which is a standard BT cable with a white Fakra connector at one end and a black/purple connector at the other) will NOT solve this problem without modification. The black/purple fakra female connector will plug into the cable to the eject box but the white connector will not match the TCU without modification. The correct coloured Fakra connector to plug into the TCU would be WINE RED. The difference is the slots are at different positions. To modify the white connector REMOVE IT FROM THE CABLE using a small jewellers screw driver and use a utility knife to cut a slot in the correct position! Then place the connector back onto the cable and connect to the TCU. Photos are below BUT NOTE I CUT THE SLOT ON THE WRONG SIDE SO HAD TO RECUT ON THE OTHER SIDE! The cable from the bumper antenna will simply plug into the TCU! I hope this helps! |
