X5 w/Verizon Treo 650

I have an 05 x5 Nav BT and a Verizon Treo 650. After speaking with Verizon, Palmone, and all of their technical assistance people, they have determined that the 650 is not compatible with the BMW. The phone will allow you to make one call but then go into a reboot loop.

Interestingly enough my wife has a Motorola 710 and it works perfectly in her 05 x5.

Maybe someday!

Until then my 650 goes back tomorrow and I have to keep using my 600 (one great phone by the way)

Well, maybe in 1 year....I waited about 1/2 year or so before I got the 1.40OR firmware for the V710 to allow it to work with the BMW BT module.

Guess what....I sucessfully paired the VZW Treo 650 with our BT/Assist module -993. The phonebook also transfers. Custom Cellular had 2 650 left...Bill @ CC let me try a 650 before buying it. A lady bought one & I got the last one. Right now I'm typing this post on the Treo!!!

I added the BMW BT as a trusted device. More details later....

If anyone is interested in getting a Verizon Treo 650, let me know. I can send you to Bill @ Custom Cellular and he'll give a good deal. Just mention that you know me.

The VZW Treo 650 is out of stock at all the Verizon Wireless stores and even VZW Online! Bill had two VZW Treo 650 left and he was nice enough to open one and charge up the battery and let me see if it would pair up with the BT/Assist module in the M3.

Then, while I was trying to pair it, this lady shows up wanting a Treo 650...She gets the other one and I have the last one in my hand. I finally get the BMW BT/Assist and Treo 650 paired up. Then I make a voicemail call from it well knowing that there was no service and then you hear it ringing in the M3's speaker and I get Verizon's canned message that my phone has not been activated, blah, blah, blah. Then after I hang up, I notice that VOICEMAIL was in my BMW Telephone directory. Then I add some "speed dial" numbers and it shows up in the BMW Telephone directory in 1-2 minutes. That's it....I get the Treo and have not had any problems with pairing and I have about 15 speed dials. You can dial from the Treo or from the BMW Telephone menu, or the from the R/T button or from Voice Recognition. The only I noticed is that the Treo 650 does not transmit signal strength data for the BMW Telephone menu on the NAV Screen.

Now, I originally stated that I had the Treo 650 paired up with my BT/Assist module which I assume I had the -993 module. However, CAS mentioned that his -114 module has voice recognition. I tried voice recognition in my BT/Assist module and it works!! So either the -993 does come with voice recognition or I got a -114 module BT/Assist module as a replacement when Crevier was working my phantom BMW Assist calls.

So, I know the VZW Treo 650 will work with BT/Assist module in a E46 3-series. I also hear that the VZW Treo 650 works great on the 2005 5-series and 6-series and 2006 7-series.

Palmone website states the VZW Treo 650 currently does NOT work on the BMW Visteon ULF unfortunately.

It's great to have now 2 Bluetooth phones between my wife and I.

I will probably retrofit an aftermarket BT kit (Motorola BT kit?) in the 2001 X5 (the Visteon ULF will not really work well with the V710 or the VZW Treo 650).

kewl-
great to hear you got the t650 to work. i've seen various successes with different bmw's but alas, i think that my current X5's bluetooth module will just keep causing the reset loops. i am convinced that it's not the X5's problem, but the treo's problem. it will require some sort of patch.

BT Treo 650 Reboots

Did you guys ever get more scoop on this? I just got my Verizon treo 650 and I LOVE IT, but when I paired it with 2004 X5 4.4, it does as above, resets itself and disconnects. My Verizon V710 worked awesomely with the X5 beofre I upgraded- yeah, I know looking for trouble, but the 650 was way too cool to pass on at $299 with NE2.

As noted in a previous Treo 650 thread here, Palm recently released an update that fixed the issues with the Sprint Version. Now my Sprint Treo 650 works fine in the 2005 X5. However they have not yet released an update to fix the issues pairing with BMWs for the Verizon version. Therefore it may not work correctly and Palm's site states no compatability with BMW.
