Your dealer is correct. See this post with an excellent reference of TCU part numbers that have BT support: Here's a great TCU part number reference.

The PDF list linked says "probably no bluetooth, but not sure" but the label clearly shows the bluetooth symbol, bluetooth ID number and bluetooth pass key... so I'd say that TCU definitely has bluetooth. Now whether or not your vehicle is equipped with all the other needed parts like bluetooth antenna, mic etc. is beyond me.

The generaly consensus is that BMW had a late production issue with the 2004 model year TCU modules. But, the people printing the labels did not get the message. The result is that 2004 TCU modules either have BT internally disabled, or they never had it in the first place, yet the part number stickers all have the BT logo and information.

Forgive me if I am missing something here, but isn't this easy to figure out? Put your phone in search mode within the first few seconds of cranking up the BMW. If it finds a BT source, you have it. If not, you don't.

It looks like the BT Module in my X3. The two missing labels had the sync code printed on it.

Part 84116952218 (Telematics Control Unit) was found on the following E53 vehicles: E53 X5 3.0i SAV, M54, USA (FA53) : Single parts SA 639, trunk
For vehicles with Preparation f mobile phone cpl. USA/CDN S639A=Yes Adapter Snap-In You have S639A not S644A=Yes Preparation f mobile phone w Bluetooth S633A=Yes Preparation, mobile phone, Business Where S639A = COMPLETE PREP. CELLULAR PHONE USA/CDN Preparation f mobile phone cpl. USA/CDN So you may have been prewired, and the TCU fitted to make it compatible with a Snap In adaptor. Why the BT doesn't work is a mystery. Take it apart and post photos of the radio connected to the cream antenna. Make sure the writing on the chips is visible. You may find the radio is under a sheilding can. |
