Edited Splash Screen logo's corrupting TMC Icons?

Anyone with a TMC enabled NAV and customised Splash Screen Logo noticed the TMC warning screen logo for 'Accident' has become corrupted.

Was travelling on the M5 today and had a TMC diversion advisory due to an accident and the top half of the accident logo (a car on its side in a red warning triangle) was full of scrambled pixels.

I notice that when I do an extract on the Navboot file that some of the other logo's extracted are for the TMC function. I am wondering if a gif file that is bigger than the standard size is overwriting some of the display data.

Can someone else who has TMC and a customised screen have a looksee down the TMC message list and find an 'accident' alert - and see if any of the logo's are damaged.

Think I will go back to a standard screen until I can get to the bottom of this - am wondering if the guy's in the USA don't see it as they don't have TMC.

A comment from 2Wire on his GifExtractor prog would be useful too.

How big is the file you are using for a splash screen - I have a 40K image and have seen no problem with the icons, although I have yet to see an accident alert, stalled traffic and others seem fine!

Hi Dinger,

Its the one shown here (hopefully) - it states 11k (under Windows)

I had an issue previously when I used the wrong version of GifExtractor to load a Splash and it corrupted the small speaker icon in the map/nav menu (the one to switch off bitchin' betty) - when I used the correct version, that problem was remedied.

All the other icons are OK - I had a looksee whilst stuck on the M5 this evening and all the other icons seem fine - its ONLY the crash icon thats corrupt. You may not see it unless you can find an accident to call up.

Think I may go back to a vanilla version of the 3D final until I can be sure it hasn't damaged something else in the Navboot code.

Trapdoor, I can confirm I get exactly the same problem using the same splash screen image. This was with a navboot in which I changed the splash screen myself, so it's not just a glitch in the one you created.

The large accident icon, which is displayed when you select details from the TMC message list, is just a random mess for the top 2/3 of the icon. The smaller symbol on the map looks OK, but it was the one without the red triangle as the accident was not on my route, maybe the one with the red border would also be corrupt.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the reply. Well, I can confirm the small en-route image seems OK on the map - its just the image on the alert screen that is corrupt.

I have a feeling that it's something in the way that GifExtractor loads the image - the latest version in the latest 3D navboot doesn't seem to give the same 'results' on extract as the previous versions of the navboot file. It seems that the location of the splash in the Navboot file has moved down an address line - the address above is empty. I am wondering whether its been shunted about due to the changes in the file.

I'm no real programmer but kind of understand how this could 'damage' other parts of the file and wonder if the corrupt Accident logo is a manifestation of this damage.

I'd be interested if 2Wire could comment as the author of GifExtractor as this may be an issue when V27 comes out and people start to swap splash logo's.

Thanks to X5 World for creating the 3D FINAL version which I have loaded and it works just fine including ETA function. Have to say I tried the 3D perspective for a few days but went back to 2D as I felt the steep angle limited my view too much - personal view! The 3D TomTom function seems a bit more readable to me, can the angle be reduced to make a bit more readable? Blue sky is a great touch though!

Whilst we are at it, please can we bring back the minor roads to 1M and 900yds scales as I really miss that from earlier version?

Can't wait to see what V27 has in store for us.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi,
I haven't been here in a while because I am very busy developing the new CarMES V3.

If there are urgent questions please ask them by pm.

The problems with the tmc could result from too big images loaded to the navboot.

At the moment I am working on a very cool new feature:
How would you like to turn your oem 16:9 BMW screen into a TOUCHSCREEN!!!
Of course the original software of the bmw can NOT be controlled by that.
But when you have a carpc, you can control the software on it by the touchscreen.
Amazing isn't it?

The installation can be 100% removed but it is complicated to do. So if someone wants it, you have to send your screen to me.
Or I will make vacations in the US and do it there

Sounds really cool! - perhaps you should start a new thread with this one so it won't get gobbled up in this already rapidly growing one... I'd sure like to hear more about this...!

ETA Issue

The ETA issue can be resolved by getting the dealer to recode back to your car. I have this issue right now as I loaded the beta version but have changed it a number of times to implement martin's great work. Will get dealer to recode nav to my car.
Sure you all know, but to ensure you dont lose the RDS features (UK) switch off the radio (left knob button) and back on again BEFORE pressing OK to reboot the nav at the end of the upgrade.
This maintains the RDS and INFO features.

Thank you Martin for your work

Steve
