Angry 2000 X5 radio and nav screen is black

I'm new and I just got this X5 to replace my 7501L. The Nav screen is black, it lights up but no display and every 2 min the radio or more specifically the speakers cut out but the cd changer or tape keeps going so that if you turn the radio off and then back on you have missed some of the song. I took it to the dealer and they jerked me around and told me that i would have to replace both systems to the tune of about 4K! I have bought a replacement amp as it obviously sounds like a heat problem with the amp and I will put that in this weekend but I think the screen is a totally different issue. I have looked through this site and I have downloaded the v28 os and the info on making an IBUS interface and will try those but I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas. FYI it is the 4x3 screen with tape deck and cd changer in the rear.
