Upgrade question: I have an older 4:3 monitor that has an access for a tape. I also have an MKIII that I'm upgrading to an MKIV. If I upgrade the monitor to a 16:9 monitor with the cd, do I need any further upgrades like the radio unit? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

a 16:9 monitor with CD works only with the BM54 radio unit. You must check of you have a BM24 or BM54.
You can look at the sticker or to the big black radio plug. Round pins is a BM24, Flat pins is a BM54.

MK3 to MK4 is no problem. Make sure the MK4 is coded at the COLOUR mode.

Thanks for the response. You nailed it. It is a BM 24 - has the round pins. Model no. C43 BM US/P. No. 65 10-6 902 718. I guess my only alternative is to purchase a 16:9 monitor with tape or upgrade my tuner to a BM 54. Again, thanks for the response. Regards, John.

BM54 is the Euro radio and BM53 is the US radio. Might double check this for the monitor.

Not exactly! 16:9 will perfectly work with BM24 radiomodul... Only some buttons on the monitor will not work (as far as I remember - Info, Select and may be some which are not 100% principal and do not influence on the sound and playback)...... I did this (changing from 4:3 to 16:9 and from MK2 to MK4) on my E39 and almost half of the year I used old radiomodule (BM24)
