You have a Mk2 nav drive, so you must have an early production 2000 X5. Any OS disk from V21 and on will take that particular nav drive to the lastest version, which is 2-1/81. You probably won't notice much of a difference, though.
Thanks, I think I will wait to get a new nav 4 system and components

V26 with British Accent

Just wanted to say to anyone from the UK - don't worry about the upgrade meanin that you lose your british-accented lady... She'll still be with you after the update.

Works perfectly over here. My 04 X5 upgraded easily and quickly! Thanks to all for support and help!

Possible problem with the v26

I have installed the v26 more than a month ago and been using the system daily with no problems except the slow loading of maps when changing scale.

But since Sunday the system now jams totally and switching the engine off and back on again (straightaway) make no difference. You have to wait 5 mins at least till it starts again properly and also take the DVD out from the back. Also yesterday it seems to have gone to a very old very version (pic enclosed), and the navigation option disappears. Once again I took the NAV DVD (has no scratches and is clean) out and put it back in and then it works.

Very weird. May re-install v26 again unless the DVD Navigation unit is faulty?

Anyone else with this problem?

What seems to be happening is the vehicle is losing communication with your nav drive, and when that is happening then it is defaulting to the menu system from the video module (that's what is in your attached picture). It sounds to me like you either have a wiring connection problem or your nav drive is starting to fail. It should still be under warranty, so you may want to see your dealer about having it replaced.

I think it crashes when you change the scale from 2.5 miles to 150 yard (in otherword big changes in the scale) That is what I have noticed on the last few occasions. No cabling has been touched since I bought my car.

Will book it in after xmas for dealer to have a look at? Do they keep record of what version was installed on the vehicle? (should I downgrade back to v24?)

No records are kept on the OS version. Leave it as is and have them look at it.

I change my scale in large chunks all the time and never have any glitches like this. So that's not a normal condition.

Wow... I always dismissed this thread whenever there were new posts. I thought my car was new enough to have everything up-to-date. Boy was I wrong. I was kind of hesitant to do this update today as I am leaving on a week long road trip around the state. I didn't want anything to go wrong and not have my NAV for a road trip.

But alas, I could not wait.

I downloaded the software, downloaded Alcohol, downloaded tugzip, and followed the EXCELLENT intrustions. It was extremely easy to download, burn, and update the software in my car. Thanks so much for doing a perfect writeup on page 1. I must say the admins and long-time/frequent posters on this website... nay, this community are awesome!

Guys I am using a Mac as well and am having a problem with the image. I DLed the disc image and unrared it using StuffIt. I then renamed one of the 2 files to bmw v26 software.iso as instructed. I then went into Toast-->Utilities-> Mount Image and get the error "Couldnt complete the last command because of a Mac OS error Result Code = -60007" Any help guys?

I'm new here, this is my first post.
I expect my X3 3.0d in ~ one month.

I live in Romania (Europe) and my dealer did not even know that the Nav System can be upgraded !!!

Do you know if the new cars have the latest nav system ?
