MK IV refuse to boot new OS

Hi!

I were going to code my MKIV from monochrome, to colour last year, but somewhere in the update process something decided to crash it..

I lost my Navi option on my mono display, and got no responds via navcoder, so im without any OS.. I sold my colour screen when this happened, and forgot about the whole retrofit, but now I want to fix it..

When I try to load a new OS cd, it starts to spin for about 5-6 seconds, then it stops for 25seconds, and spins for a new 5-6 seconds and stops. This is the sequence it loops in, with nothing else happening, except the power led blinking once in a while (gonna time it later).

I have tried different medias and firmwares, burned in mode2 and on dvd and cd, but no luck yet... Maybe its back luck with the medias, or has the flash been corrupted when I tried to code it from mono to colour?

Since I tried to make it a colour MKIV, can it be that it tries to boot itself in colour now, and therefore will not sync with the monochrome screen its connected to?

Hoping that your skills may be able to help me... Thanks!

es, it may be trying to load colour OS.
But if an OS is loaded, you can talk to it with NavCoder

Power it up (on the workbench if needed) and et it try and read a OS CD.
Let it keep trying for an hour or so, sometimes it takes a long time!

Make sure your CDs you are using are good and have low error rates - measure them! Burn at the lowest speed the CD supports (do not burn at 1x!)

The lowest I can burn at is 10x, is that fine? Do I just connect +12 and ground to a power supply and ibus to the interface and then put in a OS cd?

Is there anything else I need to do?

Thank you for helping

Check what your raw CD says it will accept. ImgBurn provides this info.

Yes, power, gnd and ibus to the PC with NavCoder monitoring the ibus works
I have loaded OS on many Mk4s this way.

I can see 2 x 12v, one on the purple, that I guess are for the gps?
Should I connect pin F69 and the +12v ground point to the power supply only? Or do I need to connect both 12v and ground points to the psu?

I will try now with connections on +12 and the pin right beneath it.

Connect 12V permanent battery power and ground

Connect 12V ignition power via a switch, OR use NavCoder to generate ibus traffic to wake up the nav

As long as ibus traffic is present, the nav will stay powered up

The 12V on the blue connector is permanent battery power
The 12V on the purple connector is 12V ignition power
Use the case as ground
Refer to the WDS or the retrofit instructions for full pinouts and pin functions

I used a laptop 12V switch-mode supply, 1A, this was sufficient to power the nav on the bench.
Remember to use NavCoder to monitor the state of the nav as you will not have a monitor screen to see the video output.

Use the MsgTester in NavCoder and program the Fn buttons to send eg Country Coding, Time and Date commands when requested by the nav.

Thank you so much KiwiJochen!

I did not have a display on my nav when trying to load os, my monochrome screen were missing the navi feature, and did not show any update progress at all.

I will try this now, and hopefully it will work

Again, thank you so much for your help, you know ALOT about these things

I am not able to get the MKIV to start, I have tried connecting both +12v and ground to case + the ground pins on the back of it.

In navcoder I get:
ready - idle
idle 1sec
recieving bus message - busy

But that only indicates that the IBUS "controller" in the navi is alive, right?

and that goes in a loop, not able to start it with +12 on ignition pin, and no response from navi device in navcoder. I have no clue about writing IBUS commands myself, but maybe that was what I needed to do, to make it wake up?

What is the current drawn from your power supply? if it is 0 amps, then the device is not powered up.

Have you got a pullup resistor on the ibus?
What ibus messages are being displayed?

Once you sort out the ibus interface issues, you'll see the Nav asking the IKE for config data, you'll need to respond to these messages to get the nav to boot up

Refer to a log file showing a normal bootup to see typical responses from the IKE to the nav

Once the nav has booted and is idle, you can ask it for it's current config and read the output mode.
