I installed OS 5.1 last night on my iPad 2, replacing 5.01. Now to see if it resolves the problem of Safari closing randomly and repeatedly when text boxes are open. I followed the previously posted instructions to restart, reset, close all other applications, turn off the cloud, etc, but it has still been closing up until yesterday. Visiting the Apple store and talking to a genius brought no joy, since they said "we have never seen that problem before". When I showed them over 1 million Google hits on the same apparent problem they were unsure as to how to respond. So I took pity on them and left.

Interested in other's experiences as to whether the upgrade to 5.1 resolves this apparent bug.

I have a similar experience with iBooks and PDF files we use...my iPad is the only one that dumps the program...seven of us use it here and all have identical files as we use this for work, but I'm the lucky one...."genius" at the bar suggested i had too many PDF's, yet couldn't explain why i was the only one who was having issues in my office...5.1 didn't help, uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted...everything....works for now but seems like i run out of memory as i use it..very strange...pisses me off cause i end up using my AIR now more than the iPad for the same presentations...not as easy to utilize slide shows etc, but at least it works!

JCL:

I can understand your frustration. iPad like all devices can have their issues.
However since your iPad is under warranty there is no reason for this issue to continue.
My suggestion is. Gather your receipt, and you iPad serial number and call apple immediately.

Leave out to one million other users who are suppose to have the problem.
Describe your problem. If there's an answer they will walk you thru how to
solve it. If they can't correct the problem they will prob. suggest sending you
another iPad.

I've called Apple very few times since 1984 and every time I called the
problem was solved in less than 10 minutes.

OS 5.1 installed and Safari hasn't closed unexpectedly since. Maybe they fixed it. The release notes don't highlight this issue, but in the fine print they refer to several bug fixes. So far so good.

Quick, I was never particularly frustrated. It just didn't work. It wasn't a hardware issue, which would have clearly been warranty. It was a software conflict and Apple's next step was to remove all my applications. I wasn't interested in that. It was less trouble to live with it

...in iPad news...Record breaking sales in first 3 days. Apple online store says if you order today it will ship in 2 to 3 weeks. eBay sellers making money due to shortage.....;)

If it keeps getting 10 degrees hotter with each iPad, we should be able to grill meat right on the iPad in another few hours. Maybe they will have an app for that. :)

Long as we are not grilling Pink Slim burgers it's all good....
