Wow I have read through 32 pages of text and didn't see this, so sorry if i repeat post. But here is my question. I have a 2001 X5 and did the vr27 upgrade with no snags. I got into the service menu as well... but.... I don't get a perspective option on my screen when I go into the "Navagation/Graphic element" I have the smaller screen... is this why ?

Thanks :)

The reason why is, unless you previously upgraded your nav drive from a MkIII to a MkIV, you have a MkIII nav drive and it does not support Perspective mode. If you go to "SETTINGS" after hitting MENU and in the top right screen it says 3-1/63 then this tells you that you have a MkIII and it is at the highest OS release level available at this time.

2-1/81 means you have a MkII. You must have one of the last vehicles ever produced with one of those.

In my opinion, pull that unit out and replace it with a MkIV. You'll have 10 times the performance.

Yes I know, I am a pain in the a$$. But how much is there to do on that change? and where do I find a MkIV unit ?

The change to a MkIII or MkIV is pretty much plug-n-play.

The MkII has 2 components. The nav drive and a stand alone GPS receiver unit. You will want to remove both and simply connect the 2 cables from the back of the MkII and the antenna cable from the back of the GPS receiver to the MkIV and you are up and running. (the MkIII and MkIV have a built-in GPS receiver, unlike the MkI and MkII that require an additional stand alone unit).

eBay is usually a good place to look for one. Be sure you get a MkIV that is for an i-bus vehicle with the color screen.

Cool, I am on the hunt.

Just want to say thanks too, this is a really cool site and I am sure I will be around for a while to bug... er um I mean contribute some usefull info :) I used to own a Grand Prix GTX and just made the jump to the X5. So far I love it. And this site will keep my hands on my X5 :) My girlfriend might come by and post a few nasty messages from time to time to try and get me booted off though ;)

Another successful upgrade to v27!!! Woohoooo :band:

Had a slight problem with the first attempt, I changed the language pack to the british female and it said there was a problem with upgrade. Anyway, took the disk out and lost my nav!!!

Reburnt the disk, just changing the logo and leaving the language as it was and everything top notch now :thumbup:Said it was GB female voice during upgrade, so will see tommorrow...

Also changed my startup logo, thanks to nitrumluap for the PSD file of his excellent work and the rest of you guys for showing the rest of us how to do it!!! :bow:

On an ever so slightly different note, I read that if you downgrade then upgrade again it puts you into "NO LOCATION" mode (as well as putting you into Euro mode, no problem, cos I'm here :D). By any chance, does it also happen to unlock the TV module so screen stays on when moving! Looking to do a custom iPod install, and this would be very necessary!!!

Kam.
