If you make the update by yourself you always take the risk to destroy your nav hardware. That's the reason, why the dealer should make the updates.
I know some cases where the dealer shoot the nav computer, too. Then you'll get a new one.

In germany we took wounded mkIV's to VDO, to reset them. It's not cheap (~90$) and took a lot of time (~30 days), but there's no other known way this time. :tsk:

@Facelift
The normal updates don´t destroy the boot loader of the MK... !
Take it out for 10 hours, or removes the blue plug, and the "Reset" of it is next day o.k.

I´ve done so and after this time the update worked fine.
(no reset knob on this part !)
But also note: A described CD with red permanent pencil can bring uncontrolled reflexions, especially if the CD is slightly transparently. If anyone will write on the CD, then take care and please write outside on the edge.

Can you send me the address of VDO, please. Just in case that I will not be able to get the MK4 workin again.
In fact $90 is not as expensive as buying a new mk4.

I had the nav unit unplugged for the whole weekend. After that it did not boot from an older CD. (It's not been the first time I was upgrading my nav so I am quite familiar in how to create/burn the cds)

After the update V27, the System can’t find the Navi. DVD.

Hi.

I successfully upgraded the MK4 Navi with the V27. Thanks! :) After the installation, I had no problem and drove one way. At the next day, I would like to use the Navi again. But now I have one problem. If I make my car on, and/or I make the ignition key on position 1, and turn on the Navi, the System can not find the Navi.-DVD 2006/1.
When I had still the version V26, I did not have this problem. Have you a solution?

Greetings
Jan

Ups ...

I forgot something. If I eject and push the Navi DVD afterwards again purely, the system functions again for one drives.

This must have been one of the hardest installations ever. I had the beta 26.09A and tried to install V27. Ended up with a programming error. Burned and installed another V27 disk and that disk refused to come out and wouldn't upload the firmware. Thanks for the hint on waiting until the module stops reading and then quickly pressing the eject button. Worked everytime it got stuck. I was able to upload to V26, then burned another V27 disk and it finally uploaded. 1.5 hours later, 4 CD's used, I had version 27 in my X3...what an adventure.

Do I read correctly about the accept screen disappearing after 8 seconds?

Did everyone catch the last line in the service bulletin PDF file:

"Updating the vehicle at customer request is not covered under warranty."

Oh well...
