What differences will this update do to your nav?

Depends on what version you have fitted now.

If you have 4-1/10, then the change to 4-1-100 will be huge (new graphics, perspective mode, loads of bug fixes, ability to read new maps)

If you have 4-1/91, then the change to 4-1/100 just enables the reading of dual-layer DVDs. And maybe some bug fixes too...

Dualfun 03-30-2009 10:31 AM

I updated my MK4 system from 4-1/91 to 4-1/100 successfully. Unfortunately after updating, my system cannot find GPS signal.

I have checked the hidden menu that GPS receiver is reporting version 109.3, almanac is turned on. On the GPS satellite window I can occassionally see some activity on 1-2 satellites. For some reason it keeps changing only the last satellite channel where that activity can be seen usually, other channels are the same all the time. I have been driving around a good 30mins also but still no luck getting GPS lock my position.

What might have gone wrong? Thanks for your kind advise.

How did you do your update? With a disk you burned yourself or one you bought from BMW?

Either or.

You can buy the OS disc from BMW if you want.

Or download it, burn it, and update yourself.

Google "BMW V32" and you'll find it :-)

I was just wondering which option he chose. Seems like a fair number of people have issues, I'm curious as to how many of them used the original disk.

Dualfun 03-30-2009 04:18 PM

This was a CD burned by myself from the link given in this thread. Burned with 1x to non-branded disk with ImgBurn in mode1.

It seems that also GPS receiver has new software after this upgrade. Is that a normal condition?

I would still need some advice how to proceed. As said before, problem occured already after first reboot of system, so nothing has physically changed in the car, otherwise I would expect to look for loosen antenna cable etc.

How to get the almanac force read to GPS receiver, maybe?

Almanac is data that the GPS receiver receives from the satellites.

Cou cannot get the Almanac to "force read" to GPS receiver, it simply doesn't work that way.

I can only suggest

1. Leave car outside, under a clear sky, turn ignition on to Pos1, and wait at least 15min. Monitor the GPS receive signals in the Service Menu to watch the GPS signals being acquired.

It can easily take 5min to get the first GPS signal.

Check also the GPS Status and make sure that you don't see ANT OPEN or ANT SHORT or any bad error messages. "Searching" is OK, that's what it does when it looks for a satellite signal.

Only after the position has been calculated and the almanac has been downloaded, should you take the car for a calibration drive.
