I vote Maytag, and agree with the suggestion to go for a metal tub. We put Maytag washer/dryer combos in 6 new houses, and only ever had one (small) problem with the out-of-balance switch.
We've had front loaders from Siemens, Bosch, and another European brand (can't recall it), and won't ever have one again. Harder on the clothes, expensive, smaller capacity, can't add any clothes once it has started a cycle. Yes, they use less water, but that was the only plus. Because the machines were smaller, the (matching) dryers had less capacity, and ran as long as two wash cycles to get the clothes dry. I guess they thought we were only going to dry every second load. Latest house, we went back to the cheaper Maytags, and my wife was happy again.

hmmm..beg to differ
Becuz there is NO agitator the front loaders, they are actually softer on the clothes. Also I yet to have find a new model that does not let you add clothes midway into a cycle. Expensive yes but they are very efficient machines. With a DC motor (less electricity, high RPM rinses) and low water usage they do save a lot for you. The Dryer I have has the same capacity as the largest dryer there is matched with a top loader and works great. The Front loader is 3.7 cu. ft..lots of space and is NOT small.
Times have changed for the front loaders. Some one also mentioned the front loaders leaking. They were specific Maytag models that had the angled drums and the water was never rinsed completely. Mildew was another problem. This is 2-3 years back and Maytag got sued to. Quote:

Hi,
Not sure if you're looking for a distributor, but we recently purchased our fridge, range, warming drawer and Duet washer and dryer from ABT (http://www.abtelectronics.com) in Chicago. They are an excellent company and ship anywhere in the US. Most appliances come with manufacturer warranty, so service isn't an issue. We saved over $2,000 in sales tax and equipment cost from ABT on our last purchase and that included shipping from IL to MN. ABT, I believe, always has very high consumer ratings. By the way, they shipped our 600 lb. Sub-Zero fridge flawlessly. Sub-Zero has also performed warranty work on the unit, all under manufacturer warranty. Thanks, Saxe |

Hi All...
Got a Frigidare, stackable apt. unit. When the button is pressed on dryer, dryer works, release the button, dryer stops. (Motor should continue to run.) Where is the problem, button, timer, motor area.... ? http://www.xoutpost.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=9047 http://www.xoutpost.com/misc.php?do=g...g=0&forumid=5# Pacaron (Klaatu Barada Nikto) |

We got the Kenmore HE3t front-loading W&D about 3-4 years ago. They have been fantastic. Best we have had, ever. If you think you might have a little PNG or two soon, it would definitely be worthwhile. Of course, if you think kids is several years away, get the cheaper version, use them for a few years, and then upgrade to the newest & best at that time.
