The virus was and is called SARS-Cov-2, that's just fact. The reason to call it SARS-Cov-2, it that is its name. Calling it something else would be likened to deciding to call somebody Jim who's name is Bob, and then being corrected by Bob to his actual name but saying to Bob; nah I like Jim better and if get enough people to do it, then your name effectively is now Jim.

That's exactly what is going on when somebody calls the virus COVID-19 vs SARS-Cov-2.

Coronaviridae Study Group is what I'm finding for the entity responsible for naming it.

CDC is not involved with naming it. The same day (11 Feb), that CSG named the virus the WHO named the disease caused by the virus: COVID-19)

Because "Asia"* insisted nobody uses the actual virus name to avoid freaking out people affected by SARS-Cov-1, lead to this confusion that the virus and the disease are the same name.

* I don't know which entities were involved in course correction on the use of the official name, they should have but didn't suggest an alternative.

Before 11 Feb, the virus had a nickname: 2019-nCoV. That was the official moniker for the virus and back as early as the first week of January, most entities used some variation of wuhan virus or novel corona virus. Do a search on old news feeds from January from any legacy media I found ten different references in 2 minutes.

Now if I inadvertently attempt to type wuhan virus I will get an auto correct to SARS-Cov-2 .

I've not been trying to convince people it's totally fine to use the term that some people find offensive, I'm saying there is no reason to be offended. You feel how you feel though and I have no reason to use the nickname since noise I have a shortcut to type SARS-Cov-2.

Most "news" entities use the term coronavirus and usually in the correct context. I'm not "fine" with that but it's taken root and there is no way to change it now

This is another good read. Virus is here to stay, and will become the 5th dominant strain of the Coronavirus that together causes the common cold.

Herd immunity, as mentioned by crystalworks, seems an increasing possibility.

A lot more heartache and death will happen before our body adapts to this virus and the effects of the virus reduces as a result.

Or/and it mutates to a less deadly strain. There is speculation Singapore's strain is weaker and is the cause for their good looking figures. But I haven't seen any actual studies backing that up.

Edit: I agree with that article that the virus probably going to be a 5th coronavirus that goes through infection cycles. A vaccine will eventually be developed but it will be like getting the flu vaccine. Some of the other stuff in the article is pie in the sky stuff like touchless doors at every business and all crosswalk buttons being touchless. I'm sure some businesses will implement these additions (some have had them for decades already) but widespread total adoption seems far-fetched.

For the first month or so I was worried about this virus killing larger swathes of the population and was very concerned. Now, I'm still concerned, but really only worry about the lives of my and my wife's parents. We will continue to wear masks and not see them if we have recently been sick. Basically flu precautions with the addition of the mask when going into public. Definitely won't eat out at a sit down restaurant for a loooooong time.

My major concern has shifted to the unemployment and domestic supply-side issues more than covid19. Plus the ballooning national debt, possible inflation. Then add a dash of concern over China possibly being more culpable than is currently known and triggering conflict.

100,000 dead now and 41,000,000 unemployed. Sad times indeed.

Edit x2:. Also would add taking a vitamin d supplement can't hurt. We have been taking it after seeing some of the data coming out. Zinc is also supposed to help. All of this is to boost the immune system and shows effectiveness at preventing infection as well as lowering the severity of symptoms should you get infected.
