Back in the 1400's there were no TV's or any other mean of fast communication. Most of the explorers on the ship probably never been to INDIA.
I stopped calling them INDIANS when native Americans stated that they didn't want to be referred to as Indians. I respect other people and don't use ethnic slur in my life.

European explorers is such a polite way to put it. Their exploration resulted in an obscene amount of Native American deaths. At some point they certainly knew they were not in India.
By the time the British Colonists got here, it was still being used. It wasn’t until recently tribes started speaking up.
My point is you have used the word before. Our educational system teaches with that word. Natives to this land don’t like it. If you stopped using it, then you personally understood that it was offensive.
Guido in the same sense could be received as personally offensive to you. But it’s hard to tell when it’s used in TV shows, and restaurant names, etc. Same could be said when the police radio a suspect, “we have a BLACK male, red tee shirt...”. Why not African?
This is the society we live in. It’s been going on in North America for hundreds of years. Like Stephen said, “don’t get your panties in a bunch”.
