Oilers in Tough

Roloson going down is very unfortunate for the Oilers and they will have a tough battle a head of them in the remainder of the series. Both Markkinen and Conklin are good goalies, however, to win the cup the Oilers need incredible goaltending at pivitol moments as we saw with Cam Ward last night for Carolina - he clearly won the game for his teammates, who frankly played average.

Actually, I thought Roloson was having an average game, or at least a shaky third period, and perhaps the pressure was getting to Roli...and injecting a fresh goalie that Carolina has not seen at all (in video) may be to the Oilers advantage - as long as that goalie kicks ass!

No question that Carolina will come out flying tomorrow and will try and pepper the Oilers goalie early to see if they can upset his confidence and composure. Should prove to be interesting for game 2

After 3 series' the breaks finally went against Edmonton. It is too bad Rolli got hurt, I don't wish that on anyone, but it was bound to happen because his D-men were continually pushing guys into him. Edmonton still has a chance to win, but I don't think they will because they will not be able to play the same style of hockey with one of the other two goalies in the net. They continually left Rolli back there on a island and he is the reason they are even here.

Go Oilers!

And on we go to game seven. Yes, I know, the World Cup is on, but it was a great game six tonight. The Hurricanes are looking pretty tired now. Anybody else watching?

Not watching, but I was in NC last weekend and couldn't believe the 'Canes flags all over. Every VFD had "Go Canes" on the signboard in front of the station in Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, etc. Never thought I'd see the day when that part of the US rallied behind hockey, but I like it

I was in Edmonton Tuesday/Wednesday this past week. You should see the flags and signs there.....

What a game! The Oilers put on a spectacular display and the 'Canes are indeed looking tired and frustrated. The Oilers seem to be getting stronger while the Hurricanes getting weaker. Pisani, Peca, and Smyth are incredible. Game 7 will be a wild one. If things continue as the have the last couple of games, I think The Cup will be flying out of Raleigh/Durham on Monday night.

great game for sure...

the officiating once again was inconsistent, the NHL needs to figure out some way to stay consistent throughout ALL games. The clutching, grabbing and tackling that went on last night and wasn't called was ridiculous. (on both teams)

That being said.... GO RangersWest! (aka Edmonton )

Correct me if I'm wrong, cause I have only ever been to Edmonton for an overnight stay, but Edmonton=full of hockey fans, eh?

I know a Canuck can lose perspective from what I was saying about North Carolina, but seriously, it's the very heart of college hoops & football and minor league baseball and NASCAR fandom in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area. For those rednecks to start hanging their 'Canes banners on their cars was a shock to me, but I was glad to see it.

BOL to both teams for game 7

JV: Absolutely right, but at this point even those who haven't been Oilers fans are out in force. Nothing against the Raleigh fans, the flags and such must be a shock to the system of many living there. From my perspective, I am glad they are discovering the game. I hope they hang around.

At the start of game six the TV camera found the premier of Alberta (King Klein) sitting in the stands with our prime minister (Harper). They didn't appear to be surrounded by security, just fans in jerseys. Harper got a commentary spot in one of the breaks. Turns out he's writing a book on hockey history. Hard to imagine that happening in too many places.

The shocker is seeing all the Oilers flags in Calgary! It's certainly nothing like Edmonton but I see at least one at every light. You have to be aware of the intense rivalry between the two cities to appreciate this oddity.

Go Oilers!
