I love the fact that the top 4 seeds in the East move past the 1st round, while none of the top 4 seeds in the West get to Round 2.

I'll tell ya 1 thing, being a Rangers fan, no matter who they played in the 1st round it was going to be tough. But, as my father said, to win the cup, they have to beat all the good teams, it doesn't matter if it's in round 1 or the SC finals.

Oilers in Tough

In the playoffs each team has an opportunity to "look in the mirror" so to speak to determine who they really are as a team and what each individual is prepared to do to win each shift, each period and each game. Some great regular season players simply disappear in the playoffs - perhaps they are unable to dig deep or scared of true success?? who knows

I currently see 3 teams that have figured this out; the Sharks the Sabres and the Ducks. My guess for the cup will be the Sharks or Sabres.

Having said the above, I will be at the Oiler game tonight; it will be wild in Rexall place, and I will be cheering with the rest of the 17,000+ fans for an Oilers victory!

The biggest example of that statement is Mike Gartner. One of teh greatest regular season players in history, and he was invisible in the playoffs.

I've been watching some Rangers Classics on MSG lately and I regret that Gartner was dealt in '94. I think they could have won the Cup with him and without Glenn Anderson.

Look out for Carolina. That team looks tough to beat!

I was upset about that trade too, he was a damn good ranger. he had a rep for fading in the playoffs though... tough decision.

The Edm/SJ game is brutal. Laroque took a 5min and a gamer for boarding cheechoo, smyth took a puck in the face, there was an Umberger like center ice check, multiple gk interference penalties.... tough game.

TRIPLE OVERTIME!!!

Edmonton really earned the win. Smyth got stitched and lost some chicklets as did the Horcoff. The Oilers worked their butts off and got the win for it. What other sport is so physically demanding and punishing that makes them play late into the night in order to settle matters? Gotta love hockey.

Looks like our Stukes got to bed pretty late and with a smile on his face.

Indeed! They are facing a very impressive Devils team and playing so well. It just goes to show you, as Stukes stated, the playoffs are a whole different ballgame. The emotions, the pressures, riding some magical force, whatever, things happen in the post-season.

So who thinks the Ducks will sweep Colorado tonight?

brodeur is still walking around with a hardon after beating the rangers in the playoffs for the first time in his career, looks like he shot his load in the first round because he's getting spanked in round 2. Nothing like making a big statement and then losing sight of the big prize at the end of the process. That's why marty will never be considered a big time player in the NY area unless you're a devils fan. Whiners, pouters, "whoa-is-me" type of guys don't make it here. I lost what little respect i had for the guy when he was asked about the devils fwd's and dmen turning their backs when they saw an on-coming check and drawing undeserved boarding penalties - he basically said with a wink "i don't know what you're talking about, but if it is happening, it's against the rangers so who cares".

Enjoy the crease crashing you're going to receive next season marty, I have a hanky ready for you and the flood of tears that I'm sure will be flowing in the post game interviews...

Oh, Go carolina!

What a Game!

The Oilers and Sharks delivered an amazing game last night,; talk about intensity and speed! The Oilers worked so hard and as PNG said, Ryan Smyth sacrificed his lower teeth courtesy an errant chris Pronger clearing shot!

The Oilers outshot the sharks nearly 2 to 1 and Toskala was simply amazing for the sharks. Roloson, although not as busy, made some unbelievable saves especially off CheeChoo in Overtime - probably the best I have ever seen!

I had a great time - the game ended at 12:39 am our time - I got to bed at 1:30am. Go Oilers Go!
