I hear you comments about people being a wise guy and putting blinker on to move into your lane. But by the same token if my exit is coming up and I need to move over I feel that he or she should let me in.

Actually this is where reading the thread would help. ie "when idiots
are coming up on the right, get squeezed by a truck in slow lane
and expect one and all to "let them in" Got it?

In high traffic areas the lanes are always full no such thing as planning to be in proper lane unless you never move from the slow lane.

Sure there is. It's just common sense and part of the skill set call good driving.

Blue, not to argue, but I drove/commuted/hauled azz in NYC and around
the metro NY area, plus regular dashes to all three NY area airports from '75 to '01; I still navigate around the area a few times a year...it isn't that tough to negotiate the turn lane more than 20 feet before someone wants to yank a rightie.

Ya'll sound like a tourist from Idaho, staring up at the skyline and
wondering how to "get over" to catch the FDR southbound...

I blink every move I make. If I am making a left, I make sure I use it early enough for the poor guy behind me not to get stuck there. I think anyone who hits their brake pedal before they put on their blinker should be shot.

I normally change lanes well before my exit and thanks to the height of my X5 can normally find a opening. That said during rush hour you still need the person in the next lane to give you a little room.

As far a NYC drivers it is a little crazy slow drivers in the fast lanes people switching etc but generally people do give you room to move over.

most people use their turn signals just in justifying that they are allowed a space in the next lane. for example, when you're in the fast lane, someone may signal and turn in, seeing that there's no car besides them, seeing that you're not that close, and they don't factor in how fast you're going.

i only use the turn signals if there are cars near me. when i don't signal, it's because there's a lot of space, though i still carefully turn my head all the way over to check the blind spot
