That's unfortunate. Sorry to hear.
Hopefully, one or more of those irons you've got in the fire will soon heat up and burn brightly. In the meantime, hang in there, and have a great time in FL. I wish you the best of luck.

Man sorry to hear of your news. I am one of the only ones remaining in the organization where I work (big telecommunications co.) and know my number will be up soon. You keep that positive attitude and no doubt you will come out of this smiling. All the best, and enjoy your trip.

Sorry to hear.... take it as a "shit happens" occurrence, take a few weeks off to clear your head, hit the beach, drink your face off and then brush off the resume... good luck.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!! I really appreciate it. I kinda knew I wouldn't be here forever, but today was a bit shocking.
I do have an opportunity or two internally, but I have a better opportunity in NYC right now. Either way, at least I have irons in the fire and a decent severance package. This firm has now laid off my father ('01 after 22 years) my wife ('03 after 8 years) and now me. My sister is still here, but we'll see how long that lasts... Thanks again. This is a relatively small and new forum, but loaded with great people!!! - Tom

TWM: not fun news, but you will quickly realize that it is an opportunity to make a good change. The days of a 30 yr career at the same whipping post/company are rare and becoming unheard of...that sev.pkg salves the wound. All good advice from posts before mine. That is sucky news but as others have said, look at it as an opportunity for change. You are definitely lucky that you have a good severance package so take some time to recharge and start fresh.
