Okay, here's some over-all stats relating to deaths in general according to JAMA for 2005:

Tobacco (435,000 deaths; 18.1% of total US deaths)
Poor diet and physical inactivity (400,000 deaths; 16.6%)
Alcohol consumption (85,000 deaths; 3.5%)
Microbial agents (75,000)
Toxic agents (55,000)
Motor vehicle crashes (43,000)(including drunk drivers)
Incidents involving firearms (29,000)
Sexual behaviors (STDs, hepatitis B and C, and cervical cancer) (20,000)
Illicit use of drugs (17,000)

So let's ban alcohol and tobacco too...together they make up almost 1/5th of the total deaths in the United states Far more than the <1-2% that firearms and cars cause. According to the FBI, in 2005 75% of gun deaths were by illegally obtained guns...so banning guns would get rid of 25% of the deaths, of which most of those are likely accidents and suicide...the suicides would still kill themselves anyway and accidents can be lessened by education, but they will always happen.

Now, Head, we have to stop having common sense backed up with facts. That only confuses the issue of politics.

I have no problem with Black or Hispanic people but I do have a problem with Black on Black gang violence and Hispanic gangs spreading across our Nation.

If what you say is true and this is purely a socioeconomic problem the numbers should show a significantly higher rate of white murders in this Country. Whites make up most of the population and thus have a higher number of poor spread across America. Yes it is true that a higher percentage of Blacks and Hispanics fall under the poverty level; however, there are still many more whites who qualify as indigent poor.

That fact would suggest that the murder rate would be statically higher for whites who make up most of the poverty ranks when in fact blacks commit 7 times more of the murders. How do you explain that?

Tell me how the guy in the Pimped out Escelade with 24 inch dubs spilling out bullets from his Mack10 leaving the local club has socioeconomic issues. Tell me again how the Mexican Mafia controlling most of the drug trade in the Southern half of the US is suffering socioeconomically.

Yes there are white gangs such as the Aryan brotherhood. Plenty of violence there but in fact they are a minority in terms of numbers of gangs.

Don't go away because you lost the argument. This has nothing to do with racism. Bill Cosby correctly points this out all the time and I respect his candor and honesty. This can't be ignored and the cycle of violence needs to stop. But it can't stop if people like yourself make false excuses about poverty being the cause.

So second hand smoke and drunk drivers only affect themselves?

How about the families of smokers and drunks - lung cancer, liver failure, etc also affect the family.

Your argument doesn't hold water - it just holds politics.

You're making a wild assumption that most firearm related are caused by accidents or end in suicide. The insane murder rates lend a different conclusion.

Second, deaths as a result of tobacco and alchahol are self-inflicted. Fireams are used to kill someone ELSE. The two forms of death don't have any similarity other than the very end-result.

you are correct that I make an assumption that of the 7250 (25% of the total of 29000 firearm related deaths) of deaths caused by LEGALLY obtained firearms that a decent portion are through accidents and suicides. Given that suicide via firearm accounts for 53.7% of all suicides...that is a VERY good assumption.

My statements have nothing to do with ILLEGALY obtained firearms...why you may ask? BECAUSE ILLEGAL FIREARMS WILL STILL BE AQUIRED NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE FOR GUN CONTROL LAWS!
