This is not a gun problem. It is a cultural problem with our society that produces events like this.

Surprised to hear you don't think this is a gun problem but I'm not surprised you think this is a cultural problem with OUR society. Americans are not the only ones who commit atrocities against our fellow man. Humans have been killing other humans since the dawn of time all over the globe.

Again...You show your contempt for America.

Latest news says that it is a Chinese national who did the shootings. So it's not a cultural problem with our society. It's a cultural problem with a visiting student.

I'm with Eric on this one, this a problem with our society & easy gun acces. Too many times personal problems & crisis are solved at gun point partly due to a relative ease of getting a gun in most states.

Sorry but the statistics don't pan out that way. States and towns were guns are legal and carry permits are common have the lowest violent crime rates. The opposite is true where guns are severely restricted. Criminals usually look for easy targets and a fast score. That is made easier knowing the guy you are holding up has no weapon.

My condolences for the dead

Loose the "gun free schools" B.S and teach proper firearms proliferation and this problem will be seriously reduced!

Look at it from a criminals point of view, who wouldn't want to shoot up a "Gun Free Zone"?, there aint gonna be any law abiding citizens to stop you with their guns!

Even the Neo Nazis in Australia want to ban our handguns because of what happened!

I have to disagree with your last point but definitely agree with the first part of it. Again, guns aren't the problem. It's people's inability to deal with personal problems and crisis. It's really not about them getting a gun, it's about them getting to the point where they feel that type of violence is the only solution. Blaming the accessibility of guns is taking the responsibility off of the person and that should never happen.

BTW, X5Jones: Nice Kahr MK9. I may or may not have a Kahr P9.

How do you explain that we have so many more of these types of incidents than most other countries, even when taken into account our high population??

Our murder rate per capita is so much higher than than almost any European or Asian country. The only countries with higher murder rates than ours are some 3rd world countries that are either in middle of civil war (like Columbia & Iraq) or are havens for organized crime.

When compared to other modernized industrialized nations, our murder rate is 5-10 times higher than most other countries. How would you explain that? Pure chance?

This is ironic, today on a radio program I listen to the host said "watch the media and others spin this in to a right to bare arms issue." and here we go

Lets not just say it is a tragedy, lets find someone to blame other then the murderer. The truth is if a person is willing to die to kill you, there is nothing a society, restriction, law, Dr. Phil or anything else can do to stop them..aside from 'getting' them first. Until society realizes that, we will have endless debate on who is to blame, who should be sued, who didn't act fast enough, who should resign and why didn't the government help out. What should be discussed is the lives of the individuals who died.

Gunman has Been Identified

From Yahoo News:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070417/..._tech_shooting

this is still very surreal. you hear about this a couple of times and many people are affected. many schools try to more secure enforce their security on campus. i have yet to see my campus do anything about security issues and loopholes in their emergency system. there really is no way of notifying everyone in school of a gunman on campus other than word of mouth. it's just not in the school's infrastructure, and this is the problem: a poor infrastucture of communication from school admins and security/police officials
