I love how people run around to place blame: oh teachers knew this, police saw that, people reported this....that is all crap. You know how many people could be singled out as "suspect" with those types of reasoning. I remember when I was in 5th grade my teacher sent a letter to my parents, the first day of school, saying she thought something was 'off' with me. Why?? Because I didn't laugh at the jokes she told in class. So what, should I have been indefinitely tracked? Please......why is it sooooo hard to understand that this is NOT utopia and crazy people do commit crimes.

And I would place 90% of the blame, for almost any issue, on parenting. I have seen some stuff in my life where I don't know how I wasn't arrested...all I can summarize is that my parents did a great job in guiding me on where to be and what to be doing when I was young. The 'good' parent in the US is like the Polar Bear, marching into extinction. Parents have been replaced in our society by MySpace and reality TV..plain and simple. Parental supervision, replaced by a cell number and e-mail address. Kids today probably know more about their friend then their parents and more about life from what they saw Paris Hilton do then what their mom is doing.

My father works in the educational system and listen to what he told me yesterday:

" I was walking through the hall to the guidance office when I heard a young voice yelling 'f_ck you, you don't f_cking tell me what to do. I'll kick your f_cking @ss'. I came around the corner and saw a 8 year old boy, who then looked at me and said what the f_ck are you looking at?"

That was an eight year old!! That..is what leads to crime, shootings, and almost every other conveniently named 'society ill'. Along with the follow up question of 'why couldn't the government protect us from that'? It takes a village people.

Wagner hit it on the head...remember when you could spank a kid and it wasn't child abuse I do I was a child then...and it did me a lot of good I learned that if I did something wrong there were going to be reprocussions that I would not like...not this "go to your room where you have a TV, playstation, phone, etc" crap...Now if you leave a kid to sit in a corner too long it's is considered child abuse...and kids have figured this shit out folks they know they can do whatever they want and most of the time the parents/teachers know they cannot do anything to them.

The bottom line is that kid was a mental case, (not likely someone who fits in certain racial profile). Strict gun control might or might not have stopped multiplying the number of death.
His parents should have been the first one who intervened and exercise tough love on him. But still technically he was an adult at the time of crime there's not much they could have done.

Ethnic Korean community is very aware of the fact that the shooter was a Korean Immigrant, and afraid this incident might spread as hate crimes. His parents movied to US in 1992 seeking financial betterment, and more opportunity for their kids, education, etc... I am certain that they weren't able to spend much time with their kids being good parents since there were in labor-intensive dry cleaning business, and were not able to communicate efficiently since the kids primary language become English while theirs stay Korean.

In many counties other than America, people are almost coerced to some type of community activies and make it near impossible to be too differnt.

Many dreams are shatterd dufing this incident. I hope this will never happen again.

If I had a nickle for every story my wife's told about f*^ked-up kids at her elementary school. Kids that wear the same dirty clothes all week and haven't bathed in longer, kids that curse at teachers, kids that say "Man I wish I could smoke!", kids that assault other kids - and this is all at the elementary school level. Don't tell me that's society - that's just poor parenting. Period.

I will never buy the "society" excuse for poor behavior. Man has the ability to rise above his conditions. Parents need to be held accountable for their (lack of) actions. Kids need to be held accountable for their actions, from the youngest age - I'm not talking jail, I'm talking good parenting, coupled with actual positive action in schools and public in general. I'm not afraid to tell a kid he's f*&king up in public. I'm also not shocked when I get cursed at by that kid - an example of good parenting instilling respect for elders.

Does society play a role? Yes.
Is it the scapegoat for poor behavior? Nope. That individual is.

We all have free will. Along with that, we have the responsibility to conduct ourselves in a socially acceptable manner.
