there has been loads of threads like this on here.
I know people own what is considered a dangerous breed of dog and consider then to be very loving dogs and I dare say that they might well be but I for one wouldn't be taking any chances with them and wouldn't own one. but still so much about dangerous dogs how about stupid dogs in all my doggie days the most brainless stupid dogs I have ever seen or met has to be Red Setters those dogs are just dumb. Maybe a bit harsh but they are like hyper active kids. |

Unless trained to be "viscious", pit bulls are not inherently that way. Nor are Rotts. Nor are any other dog. I have 2 malamutes, they're about 30% wolf, and they're gentle, non-violent, friendly dogs. If you train an animal to be a certain way, they will be, it's that simple. The reason that pit's and rot's are bread to be fighting dogs is because of their strength and ability to lock their jaws (in the case of the pit bulls).

It would be an interesting study if ALL dog bites/attacks were reported. My neighbor had a cockerspaniel (sp?) and some other tiny mutt. These dogs were 'viscious' and bit anyone who came near them. The difference was that the worst these dogs could do is nip at your ankles and could only go through your skin if they were lucky.
If a Pit, Tot or any other of the 'fighting dogs' acted the exact same way, then a lot of damage would likely be done to the people they bit. My oldest was 'attacked' by a poodle she was teasing once. It was more funny to see the little thing go after my daughter than scary. However, if it were a pit, then it would have been a totally different scenario. I don't know if one dog breed is really more likely to attack or bite than another (I haven't seen any research or heard a compelling argument that would support that notion), however I do know that certain breeds will do a lot more damage than others if they do bite/attack. And that's what makes them more dangerous. It's like playing with a BB-gun or a real one. A lot of accidental shootings happen with both, however, only the real gun accidents generally get reported to the police or cause enough harm to go to the hospital. |
