those are the Active Autowerke's CAI... routes air to the airbox and also to the brake ducts.

Yeah, this is pipe dream time. Having found the X5, I can't think of any other vehicle I'd actually buy except maybe another X5 , new. What I would love to fit into is a Porsche GT3. That's got to be as close to flying without leaving the ground. But the for that price I could get an airplane and do the speed legally. Of course There is the speed limit of 250 knots below 10,000 feet.

What to buy?

Hi Juan- Like you I bought the X-5 for the 179 deduction-it saved me around $33k between Fed and State income taxes for that tax year. I have always
wanted a Porsche to tool around also, but I just picked up a 330CIC in Munich last month so that puts a Porsche down the road again. My other car, an Expedition, just set a record to fill it up with gas=around $85 bucks. I am getting the impression that I am working to support my cars.

We don't have a large family, and we certainly do not need an SUV, let alone two (My X5 and the CEO's X3). The ONLY reason we bought the X5 in '03 was to take advantage of Section 179 tax break (no longer available, by the way). I traded in my C-class and bought the X5. When taking the tax cut into account, we got an incredible deal. Now, without a doubt, the X5 is the best car I've ever had -- bar none!!

HAVING SAID THAT....

I love the PCar Boxster. I also love the C6 'Vette. My wife loves the MLB SLK. And, oh yeah, I still think very highly of the C-Class. (I LOVED that car. Not the performance of a 3-Series, but the luxury and quality are unmatched, in my opinion.)

So... I know many of you have second and third "daily drivers." My question is, when it's time to trade in or give up your X5 (for whatever reason), will you buy another X5, even if you don't "need" it? Or, what else would/will you consider buying?

Also... if you did sell the X and bought something else... will you still hang around here on X5World?

Juan
I would have to wait for the new 2007 X5 and the new Cayenne to come out to make a decision.
A friend of mine is getting the Range Rover after doing over 60K miles in a 4.6iS and love every mile but wants a change.

I am thinking of getting the M5. My dealer just got a fanastic demo M5 and will take that baby for a very long spin. I'll try to get some pics in.

If all goes well, I'll probably get the M5 as a second car. The X5 is gonna stay in the family for some time. I'd rather ditch my wife's MB A Class, its a cute fast car but a bit too small.

Concerning staying on X5world - YES!

I've also thought about the next vehicle. It will probably be a car (even if I don't keep the X for the long haul, we also have another SUV, I mean minivan -- a Pacifica). The fun side of me wants to see what the new M3 looks like. The practical side of me wants to get a (sports) sedan -- a 545i or an Infiniti M45 Sport. I've only seen a few M35/45s on the road. It looks like a lot of bang for the buck.

It would be either the RS4 Avant (if they'll ever ship to the US) or the M5 for the near future (just signed up for number 4 for the M5 at my dealer).

However the real "beast" to get would be the new RS6 Avant ....
I've also been thinking on getting the Jeep GC SRT-8 later this year to save miles on my X but after looking at the JGC I am no longer sure as it still a Jeep with lots of plastic on the inside ...
As most of us have noticed getting out of the X5 into another SUV is almost in any case a step down...

Haven't decided if I am going to sell mine in October or keep it ....

I spent a LONG time trying to decide what to replace my 328Ci with... After flirting with the Audi Allroad and S4 for a short while, we decided to stay with BMW, so it was going to be an X5, an M3, or a used e39 M5...
Since we only have I parking spot, we went for the X5 for the "ultimate" combination of all the attributes we were looking for
So far, we have been very happy with our choice - performance, luxury and versatility are all very impressive.
But if at some point we find the opportunity to have a 2nd car, I'd love to get an M3... or possibly a 911
