It seems laser guns are official in NYC now. I was heading to Jersey by way of the West Side HWY on Easter Sunday...perhaps all the speedsters from the auto show could've been the reason several cops in Chargers were out on the west-side. Got stuck behind some type of construction tractor near the WTC area...soon as I saw an opening, I gunned it up to 50 to pass then slowed to around 35. Funny thing is I saw the cop hiding with the gun after I passed and didn't think it was a problem as I only sped up to pass...I have a built in radar detector/jammer in the dash and it made zero alert. She, the cop, chased me down and we talked for a moment...she says they're generally lenient up to 15mph over limit on the west. Either way she wrote me up...as she was doing so, a white Porsche came flying by! she came back to my X and was laughing as she realized that's the type of driver she's after, not those speeding-to-pass but she had already written the ticket. She heard the chirping of my radar go off and says..."I'm assuming that's a radar detector (she couldn't see it but could hear it), just so you know, by the time your radar warns you, it's too late, we use laser technology now".
I guess I need to start shopping for a radar/laser detector that can fit into the dash. Anybody have any suggestions? |

Not much point in getting laser detection because u cannot pick up signals ahead of time only when they have already locked u in...SO a laser diffuser/radar detector combo makes more sense
SRX You can find em on ebay from time to time in the $700 range and save $100 if u do the install yourself .... the radar detection is equivalent to the passport 8500 so it does not have all the nice features of the 9500 http://www.escortradar.com/srx.htm |

Laser diffusers are the way to go. Here is another diffuser setup from K40. http://k40.com/defu_main.html You can install just their Defuser module, and continue using your portable radar detector. |

It that NYC seems that NYC is starting a new revenue measure.
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...54C0A965958260 I have not seen a many speed traps for years yet yesterday I saw speed trap cop on the Van Wick and the Grand Central Parkway. After that I just set the cruise to 59 MPH. Sorry to hear that they got you.

I doubt he will know for sure he was jammed. Laser diffusers do not "actively" send out signals. They simply make it more difficult for the laser light to reflect back off your vehicle. So the effective range of his laser is reduced. He may get an "error" or an "inconclusive" reading, but that could just as easily be because of other factors, like sunlight, light scattering, etc. As far as I know, it is only illegal to jam a radar signal. Diffusing lasers by making them more diffcult to reflect back is not against the law.

Yes exactly...Escort or Valentine1 needs to come out with a new technology to pick up laser signals as easily as they can pick up k band and ka band..K band and ka band detectors are slowly but surely becoming obsolete...Sure They can pick up Laser..but its too late, it picks it up when the laser gun is on you...

If the cop was shooting at other cars (not just triggering your car), wouldn't the V1 pick up the signal in advance and give you time to slow down?
