Just because something is "on the books" does not mean it makes sense. Case in point: the Red Light Camera Monitoring Program on the same wonderful West Side Highway where the OP got his speeding ticket. There have now been several studies done, bith here and in Canada, that red light cameras do NOT reduce the rate of traffic accidents at intersections, and at least one study cites that they increase the rate of rear-end collisions by forcing motorists to come to a screeching halt at yellows. The West Side Highway is notorious for having very short yellows at these camera intersections, which do not give sifficient time to come to a safe stop and avoid the "click" of the camera. But back to speeding tickets: I feel MUCH more safe with a Porsche Carrera4 passing me on an empty stretch of freeway at 100 mph, than when a ghetto punk observing the speed limit weaves and tailgates in between front and rear bumpers in his nitrous-oxide Civic. We've all seen it, and I'm sure the cops have to know which is the bigger threat. But when municipalities have to generate $$, common sense goes out the window. |

You obviously aren't reading all comments...my comments were quoting Quicksilver. Simply put, the reason I purchase the subject matter is for the unexpected. The unexpected being lurking troopers etc...radar/laser detectors somewhat negate my concern of the unexpected and unforseen. Why else does one purchase such products? This is the point I was making concerning my disagreement with Quicksilver...

Somewhat OT.....but check out this video.....
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/21/v...in-experiment/ What camp do u fall in. Do you hang back during rush hour or keep it fairly close to the bumper. I try to hand back far enough without needing to use the break and coast along with the speed of whatever I'm stuck at but of course, someone will always find that spot another place to cut and move ahead.... |

It seems that whenever the subject of Radar detectors and other merchandise of this kind comes up it’s generally related to speed or the violation of some traffic law.
My purpose in joining the conversation regarding these devices has and will always be the position that no one else seems to favor. That position is that there is no need for the expense if people would obey the law. But it seems as usual that the general populace favors finding ways of thwarting the law. Over and over I’m finding that whenever someone encourages doing the right thing then that avenue of common sense is discounted for the "let’s beat the system at all cost attitude". If that’s the answer that people have regarding this matter then so be it. It just seems so simple to me. Do the right thing and the world is a better place. Personally I don’t see how anyone can disagree with.

Here in Texas sometimes the law goes to far
for instance Under a 1973 Texas law, it is prohibited the sale of ““Obscene device[s]” mean[ing] a device including a dildo or artificial vagina, designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs.“. People have been arrested recently, most notably a store clerk in Lubbock, TX in 2007 & Burleson in 2004. You are not allowed to eat your nebighors garbage without their permission. Doing so will result in Jail time! If you own a horse, you are not allowed to ride said horse at night with out tail lights. Whether you are a boy or girl, it’s illegal for you to flirt with your hands or eyes. No obnoxious odors are allowed to be emitted in an elevator. In LeFors, it is illegal to swallow more than three gulps of beer while standing. Yeah, just what everyone needs is an unrealistic dildo, because by law in Dallas, it is illegal to own one that is realistic Homesexual behavior is considered a misdemeanor under Texas law. 21.06. Homosexual Conduct (a) A person commits an offense if he engages in deviate sexual intercourse with another individual of the same sex. (b) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor. It is illegal to promote the use of or own more than 6 dildos! Politician’s must acknowledge a higher being! No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being. In tennesse It is illegal for a male in Nashville to have an erection in public. In maryland It is highly illegal and punishable to receive oral sex or adminster it to anyone else.
