Apparently NYC may not be the time and place especially if it happens to be "Jersey by way of the West Side HWY on Easter Sunday" Therefore a reasonable person will avoid the abvious hazards of speed traps by slowing down, therefore foregoing the cost of radar guns; and when the coast is clear enjoy the acceleration of a finely tuned machine. But for those who have no self control please buy a Toyota Rav4 __________________ Quote:

Thanks for the info chef...I'll look into. She did say there's a 15mph leniency but somehow it didn't apply to me.

And exactly how does one assure themself that the coast is clear? The purpose of radar/laser detector/jammer is for unexpected and unforseen circumstances. In my case, I spend a considerable amount of time traveling...if convenient, I prefer to drive the X...sometimes this requires that I cover ground as fast as possible (without breaking the law). However, some-of-the-times, I like to open her throttle a bit for my own satisfaction, so it's times like these when the subject matter is most relevant.
Again, I was not speeding along, just happened to get caught whilst trying to maneuver away from an extremely slow-moving construction tractor. To each his own I guess... Quote:

http://www.guysoflidar.com/usa-laser-jammer-laws.html I have researched this subject a lot since getting 3 tickes with an Escort Passport 8500 x50 laser/radar detector only. A jammer is the only way to go if you want protection. Otherwise, the detector is simply a laser ticket notifier in most cases. It seems like the Laser Interceptor tested the best. I am interested in seeing how the new Blinder M25 and M45 versions performed, but they are fairly new and I haven't found any results. Keep in mind if you only have a "detector" that there are some laser guns used around the nation that even the best form V1 and Escort can't pick up. My last ticket was with a laser gun and my Passport didn't even go off. Also, I would never turn off a jammer if I were using one as someone said earlier. As long as you are in a state that doesn't have laws against it, let it ride. That is the entire purpose of having one. THe cops can't do anything to you. For one, they were unable to get a speed reading and two the jammer is legal. Good for you, bad for them. This obvioulsy applies to going within reason over the speed limit and not driving aggressively. That is another story. I am sure a cop could find just about any reason immaginable to pull someone over, jammed gun or not. I can suggest to anyone that gets a ticket to request a copy of the officers training records. Police officers are required to be trained using lidar and laser speed measurement devices and if they do not have the proper training, the tickets have been thrown out in the past. There have been some cases of this in Georgia. I agree with the people who said your best defense is A) paying attention B)V1 C)good quality jammer Obviously Quicksilver's advice is the best, but I am assuming that isn't going to happen for most people.

The simple answer to that question is when in doubt obey all traffic laws.

I was referring to the purchase and use of the devices in general. And your correct. To each his own....... Quote:

I only used a small part of your comment and never mentioned or quoted your name but if you want to call that a quote then fine with me.
The Rav4 comment was directed towards Mr. Blue. But it's moot at this point. Quote:

the bottom line is that you chose to speed because you have a "finely tuned machine", you got caught, you got a ticket. That's uh, pretty expected in my book. If you do the crime, you have to do the time. It's as simple as that. It's not the LEO's fault, they were just doing their job. If you weren't speeding, guess what? no unexpected meeting with a LEO and no ticket ![]() So in response to your "any suggestions" question, yes, I have one. Stop speeding. If you want to see what your "finely tuned machine" can do, go to the track,or if you're going to open it up on a public road, you have be prepared to deal with the consequences, i.e. a ticket. carry on.

The real truth is that the speed limit is set to low.
In NYC the highway limit is 50 yet almost everyone is doing 60 or better. Speed in it self is not the safety issue, its the jerks weaving in and out of traffic. Because of the low speed limit and poor drivers you also have a few drivers doing 50 in the fast lane, this causes the traffic to bunch up and also forces other drivers to past on the right. What this country needs to do is raise the limit about 10 mph and ticket drivers going slow in the fast lane and also ticket drivers that pass on the right.
