Do what I do.. Lose the front plate. Yeah, occassionally I get a fix-it ticket or a $25 fine. I'd rather pay that then the private corporations that run photo radar. And yes, these devices are not run by the state, but by private corporations that get a percentage of the fines for every ticket that is issued.

The DC Government has hired a Collections Company to pursue delinquent tickets, parking, speeding, any ticket. They use traffic and parking tickets as a major source of revenue, you know that. If you try and fight it in court or via www.parkingticket.com, and it goes to Collections, on purpose or by mistake, you'll have to fight like hell to remove it from your credit report (first hand knowledge of this).

Write that check, ease your mind.

The ONLY ticket I fought was one in which the a$$hole cop gave me a ticket for parking in a Fire Lane even though the sidewalk was not painted and there was not one single sign stating that this was a fire lane. I won. (Took pictures and everything .) To this day, I am convinced he wanted to give a ticket to the guy in the expensive luxury car.

Pay the ticket, I say. How much is your time worth trying to fight a ticket for which you're clearly guilty?

I can't say for sure but a good approach might be based on a lack of identity argument. The cameras are usually pretty good but it might not show you very well. Another approach is to attack the foundation of the photograph and its introduction as evidence against you. BUT... most traffic hearing officers have been trained on all this and agencies/cities have covered this angle. I don't know much about this stuff. I'm just thinking out loud. I don't get speeding tickets.

As for the invasion of privacy thing, it's a loser. If you're out in public where anyone can see you or take your picture, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy, and your vehicle is considered a public place.

Personnally, I don't pay out of state tickets.
I live in in MD as well and probably have about 50 tickets, yes 50 bet DC and Va and never paid one single ticket.
I check my credit every 6 months and as far as I know, none of them showed up on my credit. My license been suspended a few times in Va but for some reasons, even when i get pulled over, it's not showing . Only god knows why. Now i'm not saying don't pay the ticket, but this has worked for me for 8 years and i'm not about to change it.
Just sharing my experience. Do what gives you peace of mind.

I would consider that immoral. Like Kaefer said, if you are intentionally commiting a crime and get caught, you should be willing to pay the price (literally). Otherwise, you are truly nothing more than a common criminal, in my opinion.

I've never heard of photo-radar photographing the front of a vehicle. I've only ever seen it photo cars from behind after they have passed the device. That way it doesn't matter if it has a front plate or not. Also, the authorities don't care who is actually driving; the tickets are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, and that's who's responsible for paying the fine. Which also happens to be the reason why photo radar tickets don't go against your record, i.e. they can't necessarily prove who was behind the wheel.
