You guys kill me some times...
Because of Ike -- you know, that Cat 4 hurricane that wiped out Galveston Island and darkened the country's 4th largest city -- they shut down the pipelines and refineries that supply gas to the southeast. It's taken them a couple weeks to get back to 100% production and shipping. In Charlotte, shipments of gas are supposed to start arriving today. You may start breathing again. Armageddon is not yet here.

I knew why too. I was just posting of the inconvenience that people were encountering and how long the searches for gas were. Lot of frustration in Charlotte...

Not sure what you meant by these comments - did not really see any posts where anyone was freaking out. In fact, the first few posts were not even from people who live down here. With that said, I have yet to make my 50-mile one-way commute and not seen gas somewhere. The issue we have here is the freakin' news agencies get on the TV saying we might run out of gas or there might be a shortage and then everyone and their brother immediately runs out and fills up everything they have that either runs on gas or holds gas - that is what creates the shortage. We had the same thing happen a few years ago when the ATL area ran out of gas in one day - not bc of a shortage but bc it was announced there might be a shortage. The only difference then was all of the stations decided to price gouge people and some paid over $6.00/ gal. that day.

There have been continual shortages and out-of-gas situs, here in western NC, for the past 2 weeks.
The official reason bantered on the local talking heads is that the pipeline that flows gasoline and other petro products, Colonial Pipeline Co., (see link below), has been at: -25% of normal volume -50% " " " -75% " " " take your pick, as reported by our local geniuses. Some state level congressmen were jawing about an investigation, suing the Oil Companies, more taxes on them, etc. Absolfookinlute idiots. Meanwhile, Gov Easley, who couldn't find "western NC" on a fookin map is playing his fiddle. Ah, our elected defenders... The finger pointing is two part: the pipe line needed maintenance and/or the refiners shut down/got blasted due to 'Cane Ike. This is not a very populated area, (Asheville>>>west to TN), but one would think we were back in the early '70s with the current enormous gas lines. Most of the schools, public offices, many business, gov't stuff, et al, have all gone to 4 day weeks, given extra days off, shut down to a couple days per week, etc. Amazing situ and an even more amazing reaction. I suspect there is some hardship and real situs, but many in "line" are paranoid, topping tanks, etc. A fookin nightmare. The Vette is full, the CRV-Fridge is 3/4s and the X is bone freakin dry...I refuse to sit in a line for an hour, when one finds a station that has some gas. It is supposed to be "cleared up", back to near normal by middle or end of this next week. The weird part is prices are way down even with very little supply. That's the report from HillbillyHeaven...guess it didn't make the national news, Colonial Pipeline: http://www.colpipe.com/home.asp

We're not running dry in central/southern VA, but our prices have not fallen at all since the rise before Ike. Wtf is going on..........petrol is cheaper in Northern VA for the first time ever.

We still have it pretty bad down here. This photo was taken earlier today. This was a line for one of only 3 gas stations that I saw open after driving about 50 miles around town for work today. It only shows a portion of the line. I would estimate it to be about a half-mile long+/-.
