I guess that Christmas Tree on the White House Lawn just blew

And by the way, the people who currently live in the White House are Christian. If they want to have a Christmas Tree on their lawn, it's up to them. And whether anyone likes it or not, out tax dollars pay the President's salary. So if he foots the bill himself or it comes out of some other tax payer funded budget that pays for the upkeep of the White House, tax dollars pay for it either way.

The only reason anyone would be offiened would be if they think negatively of the people who are Christian.

If someone wishes me Happy hannukah, and doesn't realize that I'm not Jewish, should I be offended? Because I'm not, and I don't see any reason why I should be.

I'll tell you what, I'll stop calling it a Christmas Tree when non-Christians, or those that are offended by a CHRISTMAS tree stop celebrating Christmas and actually show up for work on December 25th.

I have to agree. It is a freaking CHRISTMAS tree. Not a holiday tree or anything else.

I say Marry Christmas. If you are offended by that, all I can say is get over it. I don't throw it out in people faces when I know they are of another religion or anything, but come on people. If I see you on December 25th I am going to wish you a merrry Christmas, not say happy holidays. I am not about to change that to make everyone else happy.

I could be very wrong, but wasn't the country sort of founded on some sort of Christianity basis? Weren't the vast majority of the early citizens Christian?

Next time I see a commercial saying happy Kwanzaa, Chanukkah or so on I am going to be so offended that I call my local representative.

I don't have a Christmas Tree issue, I love them (I have one) BUT I see no issue with it being called a Holiday Tree.

I don't get offended if someone says "Happy Hannukah" but if it makes B-line feel better to call it a Holiday Tree, I see no issue with that.

B Is right about the knee-jerk reaction about the Christian Right. People are sick of them pushing their views on everyone, it's annoying.

Then they say "those gays are pushing their views on us" I always counter with, we are not pushing, we are defending ourselves from YOU

I respect the Jewish holidays, I respect the atheist's lack of religion, I respect every nationality's beliefs be they religious or otherwise. This country was founded with Freedom of Religion in it's constitution and as a citizen of this great country I uphold their right to celebrate their holy days, or lack there of, in the same way Christians do.

Why can't people just live and let live and be happy for, or ignor, those trying to celebrate their beliefs. No one is forcing non-Christians to celebrate Christmas.

In fact, why don't the non-Christians push for their own national holliday instead? I'd vote for that! It would probably pi$$ off the atheists though...

Again, let me be clear. I don't have an issue with "Christmas or Christmas tree's." But what I'm trying to explain and people are failing to miss is, the reaction to Christmas or any other religious type holiday, is going to come under fire as the Christian world starts to invade places it does not belong.

Gresch, while I appreciate your point of view you should know, JEWISH kids don't get Christmas gifts. At least I never did. And my kids sure won't. And I know this is hard for some people to believe, but, I DON'T CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS. JEWISH KIDS DON'T CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS.. Jewish kids don't get Christmas gifts...

And while Christmas has become a victim of the larger issue of separation of Church and state, it is largely it's own commercialization that has brought it under fire.
