I like the northern towns in the Alps most. So far away from Rome, and it is very refreshing. No turisti! The roads are awesome.

I won't be nekkid....
I guess a dress down to my knees. I was told that you shouldn't wear shorts or go sleeveless while touring Rome. It's thought to be disrespectful. Is this true? Granted, I wouldn't go to St Peter's bearing any skin but what about walking shorts down to my knees? It amazes me the way people dress to go to church these days.

Don't forget Pietrasanta, La cinque terra, Santa Margherita, and Portofino if you drive north from Pisa or Firenza. If you head towards Milan (a BITCH to drive in..so is Rome), be sure to stop in Lake Como...another beatiful place. I spend about 13 weeks a year traveling in Italy (Viareggio, Lucca, Ameglia) but it's all work (some good food and wine) and typically in four day bursts.
Watch the parking tickets and speeding fines...they will follow you home, and by the time you get the ticket here they're normally pretty steep with all the penalties and rental company surcharges. Many cities like Firenza (Florence) and Lucca have cameras at the entrances and if you don't have a parking/entry decal, you get fined. Enjoy. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal or bottle of wine there.. try anything and everything!

That's a bargain
I paid more than that for the Ritz Laguna Niguel in Dana Point CA.I didn't mean for that to sound obnoxious, but staying at top shelf places costs big bucks.

I think the dress code thing is really just with the Vatican. I recall lots of tourists wearing just about anything everywhere else. And remember, Rome is going to be pretty warm, compared with the rest of Europe that is farther north. Honestly, if you contact the Angel Tour folks, that is a question I bet they would be happy to answer.
