I love to cook, but not for one. It's no fun. I used to cook all the time. I especially enjoyed doing holidays and putting out a big spread. Nothing was frozen or came out of tubs. Since I got divorced, I either eat at mom and dad's or my sister's house. If they're not around, I go out.

I have a small place now so I really don't do any entertaining at home. I'm still asked to make my specialties for occasions. I'm looking forward to getting a place with a big ass kitchen and doing some holidays again.

27 here - love cooking at home. Like it has been said - by default its more healthy - and it is usually better. We do go out to eat quite often though.

My wife and I share the cooking - I am from Denmark - so my specialties are usually danish, german or french of nature, while my wife prefers more american, eastern and latin american inspired cuisine. So between us we are never really short of meals we want to make. Cleaning really isnt an issue either - a mix of not being bothered by dirty dishes and having a cleaner come by every 2 weeks means things can never get too bad.

No - for us the issue is time - my wife does not have any set time she is home - it may be anywhere from 4-8 PM and that makes cooking hard, so we do eat out at least 2-3 times a week.

As for clean up, (being the modern, romantic man I am ),
I clear the table, hose the dishes & silverware, stuff'em in
the dishwasher, and soak the pots&pans if there were any.

It takes about 5 mins, I get to be OC, and Lysol down
the counter top/sinks, too. V sits on the deck and have a
glass of post dindin wine. Not a big project...

Well, I didn't respond since I didn't meet the age 30 cutoff, but since others have chimed in....

49, and I like to cook, but I prefer to cook big productions and get tired of the day to day grind of cooking for one or two, figuring out what to have, etc. I usually cook weekends for my wife. She covers the weekdays. Everything is from scratch (sauces, stuffings, breads, pizza, desserts, etc) and prepared food is just not considered, primarily from a health perspective.

I travel a lot for work at times, and see a lot of average restaurants and room service, so what I really want to do when I get home is have a home-cooked meal. Of course, my wife just wants to get out of the house. We go out on those occasions. Apart from that, we eat at home a lot.

Clean up is always done as we go, just at Chef puts it. My wife is the OC one, but she trained me well.

I'm 26 and my girlfriend and I make a night out of it. When we first met, we did the wine and dine thing and spent waaay too much money. We realized we like each other's company, and now we stay in and make a night of it. We come up with our own recipes, or find challenging recipes online and TRY to recreate them. We have friends over and have dinner parties. It helps to save money, and show off our skillss!!!

I'm not against the guys night out for steaks and beer, maybe a Bruins game, actually I look forward to it this winter! And every so often for a special "treat" my girl and I will head into the north end of Boston for some fresh Italian style seafood and martinis.

One problem though, every day for lunch, I end up ordering in... the chicken parm subs will kill you (but they're verrry convenient).

for you with dishwashers....this may be a dumbazzzz question. I've looked online and while some pre-rinse, do you pre-rinsh your dishes and pots.

I am aware there is a art to the PH, using the proper soap, powder vs. gel packet, etc etc. I am not a dishwasher guru but the Kitchenaid we have in the office is loud but get's everything clean.

I have a top $$$$$ Miele for home. Uber quiet but I swear, 2 years later and I am still getting dirty dishes if I don't pre-rinse and or lightly scrub soiled dishes. Other have sworn they cram their Mieles to the brim in all sorts of angles and it comes out spotless. I on the other hand have to get the dishes just right, nothing blocking each other, etc....it becomes more a art of a chore. The kitchenaid at work, we just load it in, filler up and let the beast go to town.

<<snip>>
Have good quality GE Monogram. I don't put pots in the dishwasher. I only pre-wash if the crockery or cutlery has food "pieces" stuck on them -- that is hardly ever. Everything ALWAYS comes out spotless.
