I have LCD and prefer it over plasma. The reviews bear it out. Recent LCDs have overcome the contrast and blacking issues. (which were minor to begin with) FYI: PS3 is the best overall BluRay Player out there, still.

Then compare the actual sets you are thinking about with the appropriate signal. Or as close as you can get. Technology has changed so fast on the LCDs, plasma not as fast. You could be watching a previous generation (or 2) set. (cNet archives reviews. see what they say?) It's your TV. Match your signal with what you find appealling. I'm very happy. Standard dvd's blow me away without even going to BR. The difference between BR and dvd is negligible most times. Especially considering non HD source material. (Philips 1080p)

Just looked at the cnet reviews for the option #3 panasonic up there, some color complaints on the standard colors... cnet didn't have a review on the 1080p samsund option#2, but searched for reviews and have yet to find a bad one... may look further into this one as it is a spankin new model from them.

Maybe I'll just give up on the plasma idea and make due with the slightly botchy standard def picture quality of an LCD like this one...

What I didn't see in the Plasma Vs LCD article is the heat generated by the plasma as well as the power consumption. These are real issues such that I read that CA is banning them. (But they're banning every thing else so what does it mean?)
We've got 2 flat screens, and a big DLP, a Samsung 65" LED , a Sharp 37" and Phillips 42". All are 120Hz, 1080p and I'm very pleased with them. When I was shopping hard for the big one, I looked at everything and came really close to a Panasonic plasma. The money was stupid and I just couldn't justify it. The 65" LED DLP is phenomenal for the money. Bought it from Amazon. When I was doing research on it I never read anything about Samsungs being unreliable. The Sharp and Phillips came from Costco and you can't beat their satisfaction warrantee. |

As I said, one of my main issues is motion blur with 60hz standard def, and add to that skewed viewing angle and it still seems plasma is the way to go. I think I'd be better off checking out the 50" 1080p samsung plasma in person because even the local walmart has it for just under $800 and in stock...
Now my next task is to make it drop out of the low ceiling where it is going via actuator, as to be able to easily get it out of the way of the projector for when I want a screen 4 times the size. If only the projector had a higher contrast ratio and longer bulb life I'd just continue to use it for everything... but that isn't the case I guess.
