I believe we are talking about the iPad correct? Not XP 2001.

If you are talking Windows Eye's for $895.00? Nice job. You just suggested a program that cost more than the iPad. No wonder the Blind are ecstatic to get their hands on an intuitive iPad.

I did find some information regarding how the ipad has and will shape the future for the blind. This is just one of the few uses I've highlighted that the iPad can be used for. Of course it will not be be everyone.

The fact that your company has provided you with the hardware to test I believe is an indicator of the iPad's importance. Why not tell us what your testing involves and what some of the results have shown.

The iPad could be the best mobile accessibility device on the market

once again you show your serious lack of IT knowledge.

Look up Windows Speech Recognition Engine (SRE) for Windows Xp Barry. It's free.

And yes, the thread is about the ipad, but you insinuated that its technology is new and unique, when it is clearly not, in fact speech recognition has been available as part of Windows for a long time.

Your "belief" that because something is tested is a sign of its importance is also misguided. All kinds of technology are evaluated by companies every day, it has nothing to do with importance but rather "suitability for task" and "completeness".

Educate yourself on VDI, data security and device security if you want, and then we can discuss testing results. Or I can just tell you now that it's not suitable for task yet.

And just for the record.... speech recognition and screen readers have been available for the blind on Windows since Windows 98.

All that you say may be true. Some of it may be free but some of it cost exactly what I quoted. Remember though not everyone cares about IT knowledge or it's implementation regarding VDI, data security and device security. The average joe just wants a device that works simply, easily and without complications and apparently what you describe isn't the most intuitive platform available for the Blind.

If you had read the information I provided and additional information thats available perhaps you would admit that when people see the way new hardware and software is being brought to the general public then even you would have to admit that the way it is being used and the devices that are being used to run it "is new and unique".

What may be required for IT professionals is to simplify their viewpoint to understand what the public views as "new and unique". Common people don't spend their time looking at changes in technology from an IT perspective and honestly I don't think the average persons cares. So my suggestion to anyone who may be stuck in the IT closet is to try to see and understand what people in general are getting at when they say from their perspective that something is "is new and unique"

Regarding your comment "once again you show your serious lack of IT knowledge." I don't think I made any effort to impress anyone with whatever IT knowledge I may have. All I'm respectfully asking is that you consider that the opinions of others regarding the use of this technology for the everyday person. Many of my friends who have been in IT for well over 20 years see the future as heading in the consumer direction (hence the iPad debate). They understand the necessity of a broadened perspective regarding how to view where technology is headed. In that regard may I suggest that you give this article i've posted another read and see if you can find something positive about the way this technology (the iPad in this case) is being presented and share those positive comments in this thread.

Like many people who are into IT they forget what the average person would
like to accomplish

All good points Quick. These guys don't have a leg to stand on!
They are just trying to get attention! Ignore them. The final sales numbers will be the proof! Be patient and watch their opinions crumble before them! I'll circle back to this thread after all is said and done .
Next...?

I have no doubt that they will sell a lot of them. But proof of what? That fans have lots of brand loyalty? That it is a high quality product that everyone should own? That it is useful?

If sales numbers indicated quality, McDonalds would have Michelin stars.

If sales numbers indicated utility, the Pet Rock never would have sold.

So maybe it is brand loyalty.

Jeez, one would usually need to visit the politics forum to find this type of heated, two sided argument....

Anyone here willing to ship a BLACK AT&T iPad 2 3G 64Gb to a poor Canadian who doesn't want to wait 'til the end of March (if we're lucky)? PM me if you'd be willing to do that for a fellow Apple fanboy!
