Someone needs to photoshop the lexus emblem on the movie cover for "Total Recall"...

Lexus would be the wrong emblem. GM has had many times the number of recalls that Toyota has had over the past years, as have Ford and Chrysler. GM is an order of magnitude higher, while Ford has four times as many. Even Honda has more recalls than Toyota. Nissan is about the same. BMW has had more recalls than Toyota. Now consider the size of the vehicle populations, with the number of Toyotas out there, and Toyota looks like an even better bet.
Number of vehicles impacted? 9 million for Toyota. 20 million for Ford. I didn't total the GM ones, but it is way up there.

I might have missed it but did anyone every determine exactly what the technical issue that Toyota/Lexus can't seem to identify was? Still wouldn't own one of those sofa's with wheels.

Not that I've seen, but when the news media stopped the hype the complaints seem to have slowed down as well. Toyota recalled one model for an accelerator pedal that was subcontracted out. Ford and Nissan both reportedly use the same component, but they didn't recall it. Lots of smoke, not much fire. One report showed that Toyota unintended acceleration events happened at the same frequency (based on car population numbers) as other manufacturers. So, there may never be anything to find.

They found specific items that recalls fixed, like the stability control issue. But do we know specifically if there was a mechanical or electrical issue causing unintended acceleration? No.

If you rank the automakers by market share, and number of vehicles impacted, Edmunds puts Toyota at #17 out of 20. The worst (#1) was Landrover. VW was #4, Chrysler was #7 (twice the recalled vehicles as Toyota, with the same market share), Ford was #10, GM was #11, BMW was #14, Honda was #16. The above is based on 2001 - 2010 statistics. Toyota did a poor job of media relations, but that isn't a comment on product quality. Are you targeting Toyota because of their good reputation for quality over the years?

JCL - Maybe toyota should hire you. That post should be in a commercial. They ought be more aggressive and less ....lay back and apologize while you stick with us hahahaha My mother is the typical lexus owner and she is not even going to consider a new lexus after owning one for ten years problem free because of this fiasco. I have no objections haha
