Iphone 3gs:

- WeatherEye
- Facebook
- Wikipedia
- TD Canada Trust
- TED mobile
- BBC News
- National Post
- Globe an Mail
- Sleep Cycle
- Cyanide and Happiness
- Words for free
- College Humor
- And of course the default iphone apps (stocks, maps, mail, web)

These are all apps I use at least once a week, if not multiple times a day.
Foldered away are various games, and apps (Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, TWoods Golf, Fruit Ninja, Solitaire, Monopoly, Doodle Jump et al)

These app lists are fookin remarkable!

I wonder how any of us every managed to leave the house, 'work', and get stuff done, before this?

I wonder how I manage to get around every day, with my cheapazz, no-tech cell phone sitting on my desk.
Whew...I must be missing lots of 'stuff'.

You'd be surprised at how useful some of these things are.

Some examples:

Navigation: A decent replacement for a standalone nav device. Better than paying BMW $200 for each update, has more features than the built-in nav, and often more up-to-date than the maps on the DVD.

Google Voice: Replaces texting from Verizon's plan for the occasional texter like me. Mostly because I object to VZW raping^h^h^h^h^h^h charging us 0.20 for each text.

IMDb: When you're watching a movie and you want to know where you've seen the actor before or you're talking with friends and don't remember the movie title but remember one of the actors. For situations where you need Wikipedia or a dictionary, see the other apps I listed.

I forgot a couple of others I use:

SkyDroid: A $3 golf course GPS app comparable to a standalone SkyCaddie device. It lets you create the courses online with Google Maps if they don't already exist in the database, no annual fee for access. Not as accurate as my Leupold GX-4 laser rangefinder but it'll work in a pinch and only uses about 1/3 of the battery for a round.

Kindle: Syncs with my Kindle device so that I can read on the Droid X when I want. (I only do this occasionally)

I hear you, but a web "look" gives me an idea of a new-to-me track, and my handy Bushnell rangefinder does the rest, except for my swing.

I am thinking of getting a smarter phone, but it is low on my 'need' or 'want' list.

Interesting to read all the apps and uses. I may appear to be old hat or anti-new stuff, but I am not. I just wonder what 95% of the people I see walking around with, driving with, and staring at their smart phones are really doing, of any consequence. Face to face conversations may go the way of common sense and ...

I've found no substantial use for Facebook, texting or Twitter in my life but some people think they're essential.

Most of my uses can be covered by my PC or laptop but it's sometimes more convenient to use the phone, even at home.

Here's another example: When we drove to Kansas City this past fall, the GF was on the Internet on her laptop, connecting using the 3G hotspot on my phone, running our business while I was driving the X5.
