Looks like that will wrap it up. 2.2 million more floor mats inspected by Toyota, and no further investigation.

Separately, Toyota is awaiting judgement on its application to have class action lawsuits dismissed.

David Strickland of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Thursday's action concludes the agency's investigation of unintended acceleration in Toyota products. The agency reviewed more than 400,000 pages of Toyota documents to determine whether the scope of the recalls was sufficient.
Anybody actually think that unintended acceleration incidents in Toyotas were caused by shifting floor mats?

OK, if you say so. But if it is such a poor design then why don't the Toyota models in question have a higher incidence of unintended acceleration incidents as a percentage of vehicles on the road, than other vehicles?

But to be completely accurate I fixed it for you.

Seems pretty clear that they can't find any fault in the vehicle, are are just extending the previous floor mat/carpet recalls to the remaining Toyota models as part of closing the investigation.

The first car I drove was a 1969 Chrysler Town & Country Wagon. It has a big plastic floor mat that would jam the gas pedal and the engine would run rough so you had reason to floor it. When the pedal would jam you would shut of the key and put in neutral stop on the side of the road and pull the mat back. It was not a big deal and no one even thought about removing the mat.

I think American drivers have become stupid and panic instead of react. The problem should be addressed but its not a big deal. I have a car/truck that is now subject to the recall and I will get the new mats. I must say that the current mats seem fine and have never been a problem. The Rav is 4 years old (45,000 miles) and has never needed more than a oil and air filter change. It is a quality car that is much more trouble free than my BMW's, but it does not drive like a BMW.
