Here's a good idea: cut all gov't programs except national defense and transportation. Rely on charitiable donations to help those who don't have. Like the old days.

That's the only way to say we are not a socialist nation. We have been solcialists for a long time.

Perhaps some of those who believe in healthcare reform just think that it is wrong to spend the most of any country on health care, with a very high percentage of GDP spent on health care, with such low performance from that system. The US is the only wealthy industrialized nation without universal access to health care. Yet you spend all this money on health care. So, there is interest in reform. There is a debate over the right to health care. And you bring it down to the evil rich? How is that going to advance the debate?

You are being gouged by your health insurance providers who are in it for profit, as they were set up to be. You have great doctors, and great technology, and great inventions, but you don't have great access or great efficiency. How about using some of that innovation to figure out how to serve more people for less money, instead of assuming that it is simply a cash grab.

Just a view from the cheap seats.
73% of Americans want Congress to start over and oppose the bill. That seems to follow the 19% approval rating this sitting congress holds. If you listen carefully a majority of Democrats (the ones forcing this through) don't like this bill. The leadership and the white house and forcing it through for fear of getting Nothing Done and seeming powerless with a majority. This is all about Power and nothing about health care for most of Congress.

Sounds like a plan to me. Those on government assistance should be living in community housing with a cot on the floor 3 feet from the next person getting only the basics required to live. They should be drug and alcohol tested and booted if using. They should not be set up in their own apartment and given increasing amounts of money for each kid they pop out. It should be rough to be a leech and the lack of privacy should be high enough and quality of life low enough to encourage them to support themselves and improve their situation. When these folks can live better on government assistance than off, we have a problem.

I'm tired of being bled to death in order to support the poor choices and lazyness of others.

73% huh? Well ok if you say so. That must be a wishful thinking poll.
Gallop has a more realist appraisal. Americans Still Leaning Against Healthcare Legislation

Even Fox News has different numbers. FOXNews.com - Fox News Poll: 55% Oppose Health Care Reform

According to Obama pollster: U.S. will like healthcare bill, despite poll numbers. "When it comes to health care and insurance, once reform passes, the tangible benefits Americans will realize will trump the fear-mongering rhetoric opponents are stoking today,"

Americans don't want Congress to start over they want congress to
get finished.

One thing we can agree on "This is all about Power and nothing about health care for most of Congress.

That about says it right there:

According to Obama, you'll like it. No fact, no knowledge just "hope"

Fact is, the legislature is suppose to be one of three branches. And the one that is made up of 'the people' to give 'the peoples' opinion. This is clearly not happening with a majority of them. They are towing a company line they don't even believe in. The only saving grace is the bloom is off the rose. In 1.5 years Obama has achieved nothing and health care, his supposed crown jewel, has met more opposition than he ever expected. This is a good thing. It means at least some people know what "majority" means in a poll and some people actually listen to what their constituent say now.

My favorite part of this is how one side claims the other wants "nothing done" versus a colossal f-up based on the hope things work. I don't believe there is a single member of Congress that says 'no change' is in order on health care. Here is an interesting fact about health care costs, in 1947 the average American paid out of pocket for health car 40% of the time they needed care, now that number is 12%. Why is that? Because of government regulation of health care and what providers must offer. Hmm, think that absorption of cost has had an effect on health care costs?

I have the US Constitution in my office, reading it now, I don't see one line that says 'the government may mandate costs without imposing a tax to gather the funds' nor do I see anything about 'the Congress shall convince and lobby the people to see things their way'. Maybe my copy is old.

--From a teacher in the Nashville area.
"We are worried about 'the cow' when it is all about the 'Ice Cream.'
The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third
grade this year...

The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed
an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president.

We would choose our nominees.. They would make a campaign speech and the
class would vote.

To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members.

We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have.

We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to
run for the top spot.

The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were
good kids.

I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental
support.

I had never seen Olivia's mother.

The day arrived when they were to make their speeches.

Jamie went first.

He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He
ended by promising to do his very best.

Everyone applauded and he sat down.

Now is was Olivia's turn to speak.

Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give
you ice cream." She sat down.

The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream."

She surely would say more. She did not have to.

A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She
wasn't sure.

Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it... She didn't know.

The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream..

Jamie was forgotten.. Olivia won by a landslide.

Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream and 52
percent of the people reacted like nine year olds.

They want ice cream.

The other 48 percent know they're going to have to feed the cow and clean
up the mess."

This is the ice cream Obama promised us!

Remember, the government cannot give anything to anyone --
that they have not first taken away from someone else.

Did you vote for the ice cream?

Life dictates that some will eat ice cream
some will have to feed the cow and clean up the mess.
The government of course will regulate the whole
process so that the ice cream is safe, and the fertilizer is
disposed of properly. Just think of what would happen
if they didn't

Get use to it that's the process plain and simple......
and yes of course no one really cares who pays.
All they know is that they want someone to protect them
from themselves and other unscrupulous idiots who
would game the system. Al the while yelling "SOCIALIST"
"SOCIALIST" All the while they've been paying for Govt.
regulations anyway........

That's cute Name caller If by 'unreasonable' you mean 'will not think like me' then yes, I am unreasonable. And Quick, you don't even vote so really this is like a fan in the stands jumping into discussions on the field.

I'm sorry, he has brought untold debt on the nation with nothing in return, so yes..something. Please Krimson, create this laundry list of achievement in half his term...I'd love to see it.

I'll make a question very simple.....

Riddle me this Batman, how do you have your #1 priority for your party be Health Care, you have your parties Executive and your parties legislature and still can't accomplish your goal in the same time it takes an infant to learn how to walk? EPIC FAIL.
