If the mail in ballot proves to be a failure, we’re going to have a messy election with an uncertain result that will likely get contested.

We may not have a president 6 months after the election is over.

I don't think the Republicans would let that happen. I believe that would mean Pelosi would be POTUS in the interim beginning in January. Is that correct?

DeJoy was unanimously confirmed and not one person raised the idea that he was going to be a political shill for Trump. He actually has a lot of knowledge in the shipping industry and both sides felt that he could fix the problems at USPS. Which posted a 9 billion dollar loss last year and has been a money pit for over 30 years. The postal service does have enough funds on hand today that they can operate without additional funding for at least another year, so I think most of the worries are just politicians stirring up people.

I am someone who votes by absentee ballot (and has for over 15 years) I have zero issues with them although I do have a huge problem with un-requested bulk mailing of ballots because there is zero accountability (chain of custody) of them. So it would be super easy for an individual to grab X number of ballots from mailboxes and fill them out for the candidate of their choice. That would disenfranchise another person's vote for each additional ballot submitted and in today's world of hyperpartisan broad brush painting.....

Well let's just say it looks like (judging solely based on comments) many folks would be more than willing to vote "often" because they hate the other political party over actually believing that one candidate is better than the other.

Dr Fauci actually recommends in person voting. Said it could be done if it’s done safely and followed recommended guidelines.

I think it’s possible as well. Nationwide mail in ballot seems an over reach of our current postal offices ability right now.

Yeah, lots of experience indeed. Good to know. I still don't know how removing processing machines is a cost cutting measure, but I am just using a lay persons logic. So maybe there is method to it.

He was unanimously confirmed but I'm sure a few who voted might have done so differently knowing what his plans were. Either way, is good to know he at least has a long professional background in logistics.

Maruzo, I don't think there is "perfect" way to hold the election this year. Both options have their downfalls. Fauci's optimism, I believe, is just a way to try and keep people from staying home and not voting this year. I can't see any way in person voting could be safely done given the amount of people we are talking about being gathered.

The machines being removed (as shown by that reporter's Twitter, FB and shown on Capitol Hill) are flat sorters aka those used for magazines and similar thin but heavy items. Since the USPS has said they have delivered 8%-12% less magazines per year for more than 5 years those machines sat idle and innsome locations used 70% of the floorspace. So in those areas they would have had to build new buildings to add floorspace for new style package sorting equipment (think Amazon size boxes) because USPS has flat rate standard sized boxes and anything outside that range needs a different machine.

There you go then. Why pause the refit then? Just the optics I suppose? MSM sucks. Guess it draws more ire to say, "mail sorting machines removed and destroyed" than to say "magazine sorting machines removed due to lack of need because... Blah blah facts/statistics" I missed the fact checking on that one, thanks for the info.

I found the post for the video and it's truly sad that this "reporter" didn't say what kind of sorter it was and was corrected by someone else. Although I guess I shouldn't be surprised since this was the same station that had a constant update on their sick reporter for two weeks only to have him not have covid19.

I'll try to find a like to the magazine sorter that was posted in response as it had a catalog add of the machine.

In some Far East countries like Japan and Taiwan, the governments use a personal seal on top of personal IDs to identify voters when they vote. The double verification reduces chances of fraudulent votes.

Same thing is done for their mail in ballots. The individual voters would have to validate their votes with a stamp of red ink from their own unique seal.

A similar strategy could be implemented to reduce election fraud here.

Maybe too late for this election, but something to think about for the future.

True, but honestly do you ever see that happening since some folks already say having an ID is a burden on the poor and minorities? If people won't accept an ID that must also be used to open a bank account, cash a check, buy alcohol, drive a car, rent a place or board a plane...
I don't think they'll go for some coat of arms/family crest that has such a narrow use.

But I do agree we need something to reduce voter fraud. Maybe something like Mexico uses?
