The machines being removed (as shown by that reporter's Twitter, FB and shown on Capitol Hill) are flat sorters aka those used for magazines and similar thin but heavy items. Since the USPS has said they have delivered 8%-12% less magazines per year for more than 5 years those machines sat idle and innsome locations used 70% of the floorspace. So in those areas they would have had to build new buildings to add floorspace for new style package sorting equipment (think Amazon size boxes) because USPS has flat rate standard sized boxes and anything outside that range needs a different machine.

There you go then. Why pause the refit then? Just the optics I suppose? MSM sucks. Guess it draws more ire to say, "mail sorting machines removed and destroyed" than to say "magazine sorting machines removed due to lack of need because... Blah blah facts/statistics" I missed the fact checking on that one, thanks for the info.

I found the post for the video and it's truly sad that this "reporter" didn't say what kind of sorter it was and was corrected by someone else. Although I guess I shouldn't be surprised since this was the same station that had a constant update on their sick reporter for two weeks only to have him not have covid19.
