As many people remember a virus mutates and becomes more transmissible but less deadly/virulent, so the answer in my opinion is to protect the elderly and those who are immunocompromised and treat it like the flu.

Remember that the average death rate is 0.7% worldwide from the original and subsequent variations.
To use an analogy... 211 per 100k women died while giving birth worldwide average, but only 18 per 100k in the USA.

Should then a "mandate" be put in place for the rest of the world, that any woman who is pregnant that has ANY risk whatsoever be forced to have an abortion?

I notice that people forget to add the people who've recovered from Covid19 to the totals of immunized as though it is only the shot which gives protection. If those numbers are added to people who've been vaccinated we are then well above herd immunity (even the inflated % they now want)

Let people live in freedom is the only answer....

We are far far from herd immunity. The latest educated guess is over 90%. There is no indication we will get there since it has become a political cornerstone of primarily republicans rather than a conclusion based on fact based science to refuse to be vaccinated.

As the infections continue the virus will mutate again. The Delta version is deadly and it appears to cause more longterm problems. A new mutation could be more infectious and more deadly. It is not fact that mutations are always more infectious and less deadly. And, as mutations continue the current vaccinations could become less effective. Not getting vaccinated or wearing a mask is no longer due to lack of supporting scientific evidence so one can claim ignorance. That leaves political affiliation as the criteria and/or stupidity. Neither of those flawed positions can't be fixed.

If everyone followed the speed limit there would be no reason to have penalties for exceeding the limit. We have learned that won't happen so we put laws in place, ('mandates') to correct the problem. I think that more and more school districts, small businesses and federally aided entities will mandate masks and vaccinations. One way or another we have to get much closer to assured herd immunity.

If one doesn't want mandates then they should get vaccinated and wear a mask. If mandates are put in place it will be because of those that have a warped, appalling definition of freedom. We are a free society but made no mistake that one's freedom ends when it infringes on the freedom of others.

What a warped perception. Any covid vaccine's have nothing to do with immunity. They only claim to prevent the worse symptoms. They don't claim to do any of these;
prevent you from getting covid
prevent you from spreading it
:dunno:

So if daddy gubmint says to face the wall or face into the ditch, will you be first in line to boot lick as well ? With the planet more divided than ever before, there's now two catergories: sheeple and people. pro science, and pro boot licking.

Yes, you can get COVID if you have been vaccinated, however, that has rarely happened and is statistically insignificant. It is clearly not a valid reason to refuse vaccination. COVID vaccination options are all over 85% effective in preventing Covid infection. COVID vaccines obviously prevent COVID infection in all but a very very very few cases.

Yes, a vaccinated individual can carry the virus and infect others. That is the reason that even those vaccinated should be wearing masks in select circumstances.

The position of the current or the past administration has nothing to do with what we should do to get the virus under control. It is the position of medical experts around the world that is important. That research is crystal clear. Masks and vaccinations are vital to fight Covid 19, including the Delta variant. Political websites are not the way to learn about how we do our part to fight COVID. This should not be viewed as a political issue. It is a health crisis.

Those following the guidelines are not sheep. They are fact based informed individuals protecting their health, that of their loved ones and you. We should not blindly follow the soothsayers but look at both sides and make an informed decision. It is so easy and painless to be vaccinated and wear a mask. I don't see the downside.

I see you are in Canada. Canada has been more successful curbing the virus. Canada acknowledged the Covid threat very early on and implemented testing, the use of masks, appropriate mandates and vaccinations, as knowledge from research developed, as experts found the way out of the woods.

The CDC is a great source for expert and scientific facts about COVID 19 and variants. My go-to organizations for the facts are primarily the CDC and WHO.

Having read the entire article it clearly supports what I have been posting.
