All fixed

I lost my steering etc2 days ago and had the car towed to RapidTune in Carrum Downs. The harmonic balancer had stripped itself. All up it cost $999 to fix; $80 for thetowtruck and $919 for the new part and fitting. Pretty happy with the price.

Well, mine went 2 days ago. Right on 168888km. Exactly as described. Bad rubber burning smell, battery light on and off and then on again , heavy power steering and poor AC performance and I was stuck in traffic in Sydney's Eastern Distributor tunnel. Limped it to a safe spot.

Got it to the mechanics, replaced all tensioners as well. New belt.

Now it is fixed, it doesn't feel the same though. Seems like there is more load on the engine now and a bit more vibration in idle. Mechanics have checked it and says all is OK.

Dang. I've got 210,000kms on mine now and all seems ok but who knows? Might start saving for this!

Any warning signs (other than perishing rubber surface if you inspect it closely)?

Got a feeling the cooler temps down here might give me some extra time. And I'm thinking I might wipe down the rubber interface with a rubber rejuvenator like ATP 205 to extend its life as much as possible. Can't hurt....
