Probably because the new engine functions correctly.

I'm sure it will get a little better after the break-in.

Well, here is an update.

Sorry for being away so long, but had to have some surgery and have been a little bit out of commission.

Car went back to BMW yesterday. BMWFS and BMWNA, like others here, have essentially wiped the lease clean. They were trying to charge me a mileage usage fee, on top of my lease payments, and I told them no. This was subsequently removed from the discussion. So, the vehicle is back with BMW. I expect to have all paperwork signed on monday after my attorney reviews it.

Meanwhile, I did decide to move in a different direction for a few years. Picked up a fairly well optioned 2011 Cayenne Turbo about 2 weeks ago. Really nice vehicle. Has the "rawness" that the X5M has all the time, but really nice to adjust the suspension to have a more comfortable ride if desired. Power delivery appears to be near identical, however, only have place 470 miles on the new vehicle, so early to tell. The lack of iDrive is taking some getting used to, but most of the options for Nav, iPod, Radio, XM and phone can be controlled from the steering wheel stalk. Car feels smaller, only slightly so. May still pick up a Z4 in the summer...

Don't regret my decision. I was so frustrated and irritated by some of the intentional misdirection of the BMW regional staff (BMWNA and the dealer were fantastatic) and general lack of willingness to help, that I have decided to take a break from BMW for awhile. I anticipate to be back in 2-3 years with the new F10 M5. However, I just didn't feel like giving anymore money to BMW right now.

nothing wrong with the porsche, in fact if I were you, would not waste money on Z4 and just get a GT3, that is car worth paying the money for. Glad you are done with this headache

I agree with Rez :) So, are you going to be refunded your payments or well or are you calling it even in exchange for wiping the mileage charge?

jasonrhcastle 01-15-2011 08:50 PM

Yes, flat out exchange. My car, no money out of pocket for miles. Just glad it is over with.

As far as the GT3, I couldn't agree more. Absolutely love that car, especially with all the alcantara and screaming engine. However, a little too raw for me and my limited 2 seat time. I believe I am just going to hold onto my money and get a 2nd year production 991 when they are are out. Should be a fantastic vehicle.

Jason,

Contests on the new truck. I almost ordered a 2011 cayenne s but the lease difference was so great I just couldn't justify the difference. I did like the new interior and fact they put the thing on a big diet, making it 800# less than my 50i.

Post some pics when you get a chance.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hope it was a knee scope...

Mike

Mike,

Thanks. I had a Niessen Fundoplication done for a fixed hiatal hernia. Pretty much not that terrible, just dietary adjustments and shoulder pain from CO2 insufflation. Been really tired though.

As far as the difference between S and Turbo, I came very close to getting a loaded S. Only problem was finding color and alcantara headliner options.

I agree on the difference on price for the lease, that's why I bought my Turbo. Will pay it off in 2.5 years. Then, hopefully get another.

I absolutely love the build quality on this thing. The air suspension and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control is nice. Wish I could have found a turbo on ground that had Burmester, but all the ones I found were 15k more in silly options (i.e. Carbon Fibre, RSE, etc).

Cool option, or mod, that I am doing are ProClip iPad headrest mounts for RSE option. About 2k cheaper with more possibility than factory. Looks clean too. Will post pics when everything is in and installed. Gonna buy non 3G models as I will be getting a 4G Verizon MiFi as soon as they are available.

LOL...no need to "justify" getting a Porsche....I mean it's a friggin PORSCHE, bro! And a 2011 Turbo on top of that. Nice going. Basically you pulled a Brad Pitt. Dumped Jennifer Aniston and move on to Angelina. I'm just hoping BMWNA will terminate your specific X5M in a crusher, and not give one of us your sloppy seconds.
