Got this Warning 3 months ago when accelerating hard in Sport mode up a slight incline and turning all at the same time. Diagnosis? Bad Sensor.
Happened again last week with virtually the same conditions. This time they said it was a collapsed vacuum hose and replaced it with a heavier duty version. Really made me wonder if this car needs to be babied. Makes no sense for a brawny SUV with a decent German pedigree.....but the only time I've seen these codes thrown are when I've pushed the envelope a bit.
When I asked the Service Department if this was a common fault in the X5M they just shrugged their shoulders. They just don't see enough of them to know.
Excepting this inconvenience and the poorly designed DVD screen (cannot access main storage compartment with the screen down) I absolutely love this car and like climbing in daily after thirty thousand miles.

Back in August 2010 when my dealer received their very first X5M, I went and test drove it and it had NO power at all. I drove it for quite a while since I was the only one at that dealership to have placed an order and deposit for one. I told my salesman that it was severely lacking in power. It wasn't random, it was always like that. After a month or so of being in the shop, they found that it was a vacuum hose or something too.
He assured me, the car I ordered wouldn't have that problem. lol.

My turn.......

Hi. I have a 2012 X5M. Dinan tuned though. I was crusing on the highway yesterday on my way back from work. Had the M mode on. Suddenly noted a power loss and the " Engine malfunction: reduced power!!!" error came on. http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif Tried turning the truck off and restarting. The error persisted. I took it to the dealer last evening. They have not got back to me yet....

From what I have been reading looks like people who have had this issue needed to have their injectors replaced. Have a feeling that it will be few weeks before I get my truck back...http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/images/smilies/cry.gif

Will keep the thread updated based on what I hear from the dealer....

I also have a 2012 X5M and had the dreaded malfunction reduced power light came on while driving in M mode cruising about 70mph. Just dropped it off at the dealer. It has 16k miles and this is the first major issue.

Just got a call back from the dealer and they are replacing the injectors

My '12 which I got three weeks ago went to dealer yesterday (10/24) on flatbed after 'engine malfunction' message. Wife was driving about 30mph when it powered down.

Dealer won't be able to look at it until Tues./Wed. Is that normal?

How many miles do you have on it? Hopefully it's nothing major. My SA called me today and told me they replaced the injectors but are still getting bad codes. They are going to replace the HPFP (fuel pump). We'll see what happens next :(

Has 32K. I thought with that many miles in two years, it would be well sorted. Nothing unusual in maint. records.
Let us know what you find out. I will follow up as well.

Got my car back today. Looks like they replaced the injectors and the HPFP. Drove above 30miles and so far so good. They also had to replace 4 spark plugs that got fouled. I'll keep my figures crossed.

Update

I got mine back 2 weeks ago. They had to replace the HPFP. Did not have to do the injectors....

Been driving it hard for the past 2 weeks. No errors so far....
