It kind of sounds like a creaky shock absorber
|
Ordered both (Bilstein touring B4) from FCP along with the mounts...they should be here Wednesday and will see if the noise goes away.

Took a quick video , wheel has play side to side and up and down...what do you guys think?call me crazy but I think it's the wheel bearing. That much play up and down has to be it. What do you guys think? It's not the typical wheel bearing noise, but it does increase with speed, which makes me think if it's clunking like a bag of bullets in a tin can then it must be shot like nothing I've seen before... |
For the record, rear suspension is still getting replaced no question about it but I'm trying to get to the root of this noise.
Today I lowered both mirrors so I can see the wheels while driving and sure enough the wheel that makes noise looked like out of balance......and I just had them balanced last week when I installed the rear tires. |
Bump, any opinions ?

You aired out the bags to take that video right? The creaking is weird as hell - still have the noise after doing the Bilsteins and mounts right?
Good job btw I need to remember to get those when I do my rear suspension overhaul, B4 Touring is the best replacement for our OE shocks |
Hey RB, I didn't take the air out of the bags...
I should have? I know it's weird cuz it's been driving me .. the wheel has play all around.up and down, side to side,... I think I'm gonna order the rear bearings and replace. Is 150$ per side acceptable to R&R the bearing? Edit: yeah the noise is still there after the new shocks and mounts. I think it's worse than before lol. |
You cant check play in the ball joints or control arms without airing out the rear bags - they keep the suspension loaded -
$150 per side on parts or on labor? Book time is about 4 hours per side for labor if not more - When I did my fronts I was quoted $850 in labor to do both - its a bitch of a job |
Doesn't sound like bearings - they would have to be beyond destroyed to have enough play on them to make that sort of noise. Mine where droning like a bomber but had zero play. Races were badly pitted in a couple of places but the bearing was otherwise in pretty decent condition overall. But still toast.
The play in the wheels is odd - kinda points to the bearings, I'd have to agree. Can't hurt to replace them (except fiscally). |
