(This is what I plugged into the back (next to the quadlock). I plugged in the black end. https://avinusa.com/5m-radio-antenna...ion-cable.html This is the GPS extension cable, they sent me the SMA type. https://avinusa.com/gps-antenna-exte...8-e39-e53.html Side Note: The back of my AVIN AVANT 4 unit looks a tad different then some of the ones iv see on the forums/videos. Probably because its the PX6??? All the plugs in the back are white for all the harnesses they give you. The only other ports in the back are for the GPS and a hanging wire with a HDMI port. There is no direct coax plug for the antenna. They gave me this 6.35mm jack to coax adapter, that plugs into the back of the AVIN (one unmarked big hole). It fit and it clicked nicely, so that's what I assumed it was for since I Was like...well the radio antenna has to go somewhere. |

I got the same one. I ran the wires to the front, so I believe I just need to plug the yellow connector from the camera harness to the headunit and connect the red cable from the camera harness to one of the wires on the harness thats on the headunit (i believe its CAM B+? or something like that? or trigger?) Not sure what to do with the long red and red/black wires on the camera harness. I dont know much about electronics/wiring. I dont have the wire colors for the E53 either (if someone has that please share). Not sure how I should hook up the camera in terms of activation. Do I tap into the reverse lights? (but which wires) or do I do something else? |
Update:
I managed to put together 80% of the interior today. I didn't button up the headunit just yet as I need to hook up the reverse camera. But I did play with some of the apps. Not sure which app was the NAV app that is supposed to work with the GPS antenna in the car (if I hook it up right). There was a iGo app, but it kept giving me "this app is made for a older version of android" etc so I didnt mess with it much. Hopefully tomorrow after work Ill get a bit further. I do need to find a NAV app that will work with the CAR GPS and not using my phone/internet. |

I basically got the GPS extension cables in hopes that I can some kind of app on the AVIN that can use the cars GPS antennas (or whatever is inside the car) so incase of no internet/dead phone etc... I can just use the on-board NAV instead. But I guess I would need some kind of SD card or something with the actual NAV app... sort of like OEM BMW NAV....it used a pre-loaded CD for NAV. Majority of the time, Ill probably use the unit like you. Where I just hot spot from my phone. I will probably spend a few hours tailoring the unit once the car is all good to go. |

Well didnt get to button everything up today.
I think I hooked up the camera wrong or something because its not working. I hooked up the "red wire next to the yellow RCA" to the pink wire saying "BRAKE IN" (I figured thats the trigger wire), grounded it in the back and I tapped into the yellow/white cable to the tailgate (reverse lights). Nothing. EDIT UPDATE #1: My TAP (crimp in) to the reverse light could not break through the power wire insulation. I practically would have had to cut though the reverse light wire completely to tap into the small power wire. Just a crappy crimp. I read up that some people just hooked it up to CAM+ up front, grounded the wire in the rear and thats it? What about the "power wire" in the rear? Do I just tape that off and not use it? EDIT Update #2: So since the above didn't work, I tried this. It worked. The camera worked. Since in update 1 I couldn't break through that power wire with the tap connector, this made sense. Camera finally got power. I think I'm going to leave this as is unless there is a drawback or something to having it like this... I'm afraid ill cut through my reverse light wire if I decide to tap in or crimp anything to it. So the camera issue is solved. Just need to tape off the extra power wire at the camera room, tuck the cables, install the actual camera on the tailgate (or near the trailer hitch, idk yet). I also noticed that today my X5 did the following. I clicked unlock, my headlights flashed, my fogs turned on, my puddle lights in the mirrors stopped working (are off) and my 2 front windows rolled down. Once I stuck my key in the ignition and turned the key, and turned off...the windows went back up and everything was fine. Not sure what gives. Is this a iBus app issue or something else? I did have a weird issue where iBus didnt recognize the USB (kept saying no usb supported) until I hit a setting in the iBus to specifically use "...Reseler" or something along those lines. iBus app works now but I still have my lights/windows issue. Everything worked fine the last 2 days. Not sure what happened EDIT Update #3: Still not sure what's causing this. But im starting to think its the iBus app. It said in the settings its not yet registered...which is confusing... because everything works... maybe that's it? |
Talk to CW or Crowe if he's still around.
Those folks are some audiophile gurus and one is the Aero kit guru too..[emoji1787] Sent from my SM-A528B using Tapatalk |

Got it figured out.
For the iBus, there were some settings that were messed up. I like the unit. My expectations were a bit high to what the unit actually is. My last aftermarket unit in a car (my Subaru) which was a Alpine ilx-w650 so that was the baseline for me. I like the extra features of the Avin. Overall I would rate it at a 7/10. Anyway, the only big "ooof" I have with the unit right now is that when I'm on a phone call, the person on the other end hears an echo (they hear themselves) I use apple car play, not sure if that has to do with anything. I did not buy an external mic. I figured the mic in the unit would perform like most build in mics in cars. This could be a volume issue as well. But Id like to eliminate the echo/feedback somehow. So im not sure if there are settings that I need to tweak, download an app or if I should get a external microphone. Additional info: - I unplugged everything for the factory CD NAV box and the factory Bluetooth module. -Using wireless carplay, sometimes it does not connect right away. Sometimes it will disconnect randomly (rare). Not sure if that has to do with anything either. I have a iphone XR and i decided to have the car play box in my glovebox. -Sometimes while on the phone, when the other person is talking, it gets choppy. Any extra help apricated. |
