Great thread, needs a bump. Any more cool tricks from the hardened X5 vets for us newer owners?

And here's why..... http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:...ient=firefox-a

It's a popular technique in urban legend to suggest that those better off than we are don't really have anything we don't - that we can approximate what they have with no extra cost, using what we already have on hand. This chain is a juvenile prank designed to get a chuckle out of the thought of those foolish enough to try it. The good folks at Snopes.com call this a "fools errand," and I agree with them. Break this chain.

Snopes has it as well.

I'm lucky if my key, in hand, can remote unlock the car from 50 feet away..let alone some how get magically amplified by a phone miles away..bounce off a couple satellites come back to my cell phone (switching between analog and digital signals a half-a-million times) and open my car

My bet is the person who "called the car ...and it worked" was within the range of the car. Like standing in their kitchen looking into their driveway.

So you're a non-believer? Isn't what you described exactly how it works?

Another feature that doesn't seem to be mentioned in this post is the ability to open all your windows and moonroof with your key.

To do this, simply hold down the unlock button on your remote. After 3-5 seconds the windows will start to roll down along with the moonroof (front first, then rear). Nice feature to have when you are walking up to your car on a hot day.

The flip side of this is closing all windows with the key. To do this, you need to insert the key into your driver's door lock and turn and hold in the lock position.

here's a feature that i don't think has yet been mentioned.

you can program the order of info of the OBC in the gauge cluster.
do this by holding down the BC on the signal stalk and using the MID.
