What's the purpose? What does this do?

Clears the transmission memory of your typical driving habits. Starts from zero again. You may feel a difference in the shifting, or you may not. The moment you start to drive again it begins to revert to how it was before you reset it, unless you change your driving style significantly.

Yeah I agree, I just did this now and at first, 1st 2nd and 3rd were relatively close. Shifts were very close together. As soon as I got back in after going to the store, it went back to the original. No difference.

I have a 2006 X5 3.0i and it came with a flashlight in the glove box.

I was going crazy trying to figure this out. My red globe does not turn. Last night i realized my rear view mirror along with the side mirrors is auto darkening. There is a little sensor eye on the rear view. When there are headlights behind me all 3 mirrors auto darken. If I hold my finger over the eye for a few seconds all the mirrors will brighten up. When I remove my finger the mirrors will darken up again after a few seconds.

Does the key need to be in Position 1 or 2?

Position 2, hold down throttle all the way to the floor passed the click point for 25 sec, start car and drive.

I didn't know about the vent function (where the shade splits) on the panoramic roof, or the passenger 12v outlet.
